PCM Problems need help.

Hello.
I have a realy big problem with my 98 6speed.
The battery was dead and i turned on the charger but didnīt check
the volt so i fried a lot of things with 24volt!!!!!!

The PCM has a shortcut and blows the fuse thats called PCM B.

Can i use a PCM from a 99 6speed or is it impossible?

Thanks for any help.

What works and what doesn't work now? As you now already, the '98 and '99 PCM's are not the same and not wired the same. Some things in the system may have tolerated the voltage and some may not have. Are you able to pull any codes?

lucifer8 01-12-2009 04:59 PM

Hello.
Can not pull any codes the gagehouse is blown, and the box for the Bose system is blown.
The PCM B fuse blows as soon as i connect the PCM but i will try with another PCM and realy hope that it is some shortcut after the PCM.

Try to PM Bill Curlee although I haven't seen him on lately. My first thought is not a nice one. You'll probably have to disconnect just about every electronic device in the car from its cable. Removing each and every fuse and relays from both fuse boxes. Once its all open, start connecting one fuse at a time to see if it blows and so on.. Deal with whatever issues there first. Then remove all the fuses again and connect one electronic device. Re-install the fuses again one at a time and see if anything blows. You'll need to do this on every device in order to find out what's fried and what isn't. We're talking PCM, BCM, TAC, SCM, IP Cluster, HVAC, Radio, EBTCM, Bose audio amp...and so on. Dude, I feel for you because this could get very costly indeed. Again, try Bill Curlee as he may have a better idea for you. BTW, if you end up buying all new electronics, you'll certainly need a Tech2 to get them all talking again. Please....contact Bill someway. Bill Dearborn may have some good ideas as well... he's pretty sharp too.

Can i swap the PCM from my 98 automatic to the 98 6speed to see if the fuse will last (fuse PCM B) or can that damage the automatic PCM?

lucifer8 01-13-2009 05:36 PM

Do anyone know what sensors the PCM B fuse supplies?

Personally, I wouldn't do that. It might trash something else on the buss. Even if you attempted this, the car will not start due to the security between the BCM and PCM not matching up.

Were you able to get a hold of Bill Curlee and get any advice from him yet? Any progress on your problems?

lucifer8 01-15-2009 02:51 AM

I send Bill a PM but no answer yet.

I tryed the PCM from my 98 automatic and the fuse stays ok and when i put in the 98 6 speed PCM the fuse blows.

I had to try this becouse itīs hard to find help here in Sweden.
A new PCM in sweden cost 1700Usd!!! Do anyone know the cost in the US (heard about 600usd)

Thanks

Hi Lucifer8,
greetings from Czech Republic.

check eBay and have look for 98' PCM, number should be 16238212. Probably 97' will fit too(16232148). Cost around USD100. Reflashing is needed. (VIN)

From 99' they changed harness. Unfortunately I have 00-01 PCM, so it will not help you.
Regards
Roman

Well, it certainly sounds like the PCM got toasted. I don't know a thing about import/export costs for the units, but will suggest you try Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com and he can better advise you there. He's got the best prices around and for the proper parts. I caution you though, plugging in a brand new PCM into a system with possible other fried electronics, might fry it again. You will have to have a Tech2 to get the system running again.
