I'll give you the colors in order- You give me it's purpose!
No cheating! But the catch is... They don't seem to be stock colors!
We were trying to install a New Sony Head Unit into my 1992 Coupe C4
Attachment 48160864
And these connectors came out of the back of my Bose H.U. -I cut them off right at the H.U.

These are on the 9 pin connector
1. Blue + Black stripe
2. Blue
3. Brown
4. Black (Thicker wire) \\\
5. Red (Thicker wire) ----- These all were wrapped together by the factory!
6. White (Thicker wire) ///
7. Yellow
8. White
9. Black

And on the 7 pin connector
1. Red
2. White + Red stripe
3. Orange
4. Grey
5. Tan
6. Green
7. White + Green stripe

I was told to connect a resistor in between two of these wires (which ones i don't know) and attach to the 12V switchable wire (but I don't know which wire is 12V sw.)

The 12V switchable is supposed to be Yellow- but my right speaker wire is supposed to be yellow also, and i only have 1 yellow!

Also I have 2 Blacks, 2 Reds, 2 whites, and 2
I asked this in the C4 question, but nobody knows :sadangel:

FatherTime 01-22-2009 03:34 PM

:lurk: HINT
to make it easier to figure out the other colors-
i bent the "Supposed" Speaker wires over and taped with black tape

I'm guessing these speaker wires are stock (Except yellow maybe) but i could be wrong!

Any Help would save me years of Nightmarish Horror! :bigears

Thanks for the reply
OK, I was taking a pic of what i was trying to do...
"Just hook up the resistors and the 12V switchable to the Mystery wires to avoid the SYS light from coming on after install of a new radio"
Attachment 48160860
When i thought to myself- I wonder if the wires on the other side of these harnesses are different...
Sure enough, they were different! :toetap:
I took some pics-

Damn... Those can't be stock colors either....

There is NO YELLOW???

Who built my corvette? And what were they smoking?

I'll try to decipher what's what tomorrow! Any Help in the meantime would be Great! :blueangel:
Thanks for looking! God Bless!

OK, lets start at the beginning. You want to install a new HU, and keep the Bose speakers? If so, you will need a adapter to lower the output voltage of the new radio. If you are changing out the speakers, there is no need to use any of the wiring that goes into the old radio; just take the power from the CDM, which is under the dash on the pass side of the car. You will also find the wire to signal the antenna when to go up and down.
Did you read the C4 FAQ at the top of the page? If you need any more help, feel free to send me a PM.
Also, you may not get the SYS light if you hook you radio up this way; I did not. Remember, you only get the SYS light if you use the dimmer wire (brown) when hooking up your radio.

"Did you read the C4 FAQ at the top of the page?"
Repeatedly for about 2 months- I began this project almost a month ago. I also read any threads that include "Stereo C4" and "Bose Stereo". Some more than 6-7 times! I even started a thread for this in the C4 sections... no help with the funky wire colors yet...

No...

No adapter-
I ran new 4 gauge from battery to back + and - (With the help from a few threads!)
Replaced front with 4" Kickers Back with 6" Clarion Pro's (With the help from a few threads!)
Running All new wires to Sony Xplod Head Unit (It doesn't have a dimmer wire.)

Only one wire I really needed to hook up was the 12V Switchable to the resistors and other wires that will give a SYS light.

I didn't want to buy a harness, or rip into the dash- Both I read were a PITA!
And I've read that other people have gone without them. I just have to figure out which wires i need to connect.

(They should be there! They have to be connected to the head unit right?)

Hell I'll try it without any harness then...

But others have had the same problem after installing certain aftermarket h.u.'s.
They posted about it... then said "Fixed it!" and no reply on HOW they fixed it- :toetap:
And most of those threads are closed... but not this one!
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/audi...d-install.html

So I replied to see what he says... no reply back yet. :bigears

It also reads in the link to SYS light in the C4 Audio faq's...
Sys Light Fix

On the 1990-1993 model DTC 72 + 74 will be set because the lines for the LED and LCD go to an open circuit...
Only way to fix it is to hook those up to (1K ohm .5W) resistors and hook them both up to the 12V Switchable. (According to the link in FAQs and the threads i've asked)

------------- So I'm at this point -----------
So my LCD wire is colored _______
And My LED wire is __________
And my 12V switchable is ________
----------------------------------------------
The final step is to attach them to this (White) "12V ACC-key Switchable Wire" that is coming from my head unit and we're done!

I went through this when I had '96s. Here's a couple of things I remember:

1. The color of the wires on the radio side of the connectors do not match the colors of the wires on the car harness side of the connectors. The wiring diagrams use the colors of the car harness. Plug the connectors in and "translate" the colors for your resistor installation.

2. I had 2 '96s. the first one had the manual A/C controls and required the resister mod to prevent the "sys" flashing. The second car had the automatic A/C controls and did NOT need the resistor mod. Why? Because the purpose of the resistor mod is to fool the car's computer into believing that the LED displays are drawing current and working properly. Since the automatic A/C control display also has LEDs, the computer sees the current draw and did not display the "sys" warning.

Good luck on your install.

:hurray:
Wow! That's some "Need to know" stuff that i haven't seen posted before.
(the FAQ's on the C4's didn't state anything like this!)
Thanks for the great info Santa... I mean Klaus!
:blueangel:

And my Install is complete up and to these wires- i'll go clip them together and see what goes to what! May be Rocking by Noon!!!

Of course I cant go for a cruise- since its 20 below Zero in town. But I'll be California Dreamin in the heated garage -listening to the Mama's and Papa's!

Again! Thanks for all the help everyone! I can only hope my threads on this will come in handy for others in some way.

Klaus, thanks for the info. You should post it in the FAQ section. My car has the auto A/C controls; I guess that's why I never had the problem.

FT, let us know how you make out.

UPDATE- My Resistors go to my Bose head unit wires Orange and White/Red stripe...
 Who would of thunk!

HOW-
I had Two Gry/Blk wires on same connectore- after the harness to bose h.u. 1 goes to orange, 1 to gray...

If you zoom in and look at the diagram given in the FAQ's you can see where the connectors go into the bose-
One says ORN (orange) -it goes out to a Gry/Blk wire!
(my other Gry/Blk wire goes to Gray- so i put the resistor on ORANGE.)

The other one said WHT/RED (White with Red stripe) - Goes to PPL/WHT (Purple/White!)
Since I had 2 Purple/Wht -I followed the one to WHT/RED and hooked up the resistor!

The only thing left is finding out which one has the switchable power...
:toetap:
I may just run a new wire from the fuse box for now- At least I'll know if it works, and if all this trouble was worth it! :(
Wish me luck!

here is all you need. this pigtail plugs into the cdm wires and bypasses the cdm completely without hacking any of the origuinal bose stuff.

This will get power and everything to a aftermarket radio. this was in my 1990. I think by going through the connectors you are you are still rlying on the problematic cdm.

I also had a '96 and put a dd pioneer in it, it wasn't quite as complicated as yours but i did have to run wires from the front of the car to behind the passenger seat and that was no fun. Are you planning on running subs at all? Wish I could have helped more.

I am getting a sys light and have the manual control.

Do you splice into the wires that used to be pluged into the back or the old control unit.I unpluged these and there just laying there.
If so do I attach two wires.
I'm not to good when it comes to this stuff.
I need info for dumby's
BTW my radio cuts out when turned up on hard base any Idea's?
I only have a pioneer 50 w reciever no amp.

the pink wire for the antenna is not connected to anything, how do i get the antenna to work

angelotammy93 07-07-2012 04:02 PM

changed speakers only in 93, now power door locks and windows don't work-HELP!!

I changed only the speaker housings (assembly with speaker & amp) with stock bose assembly in 1993 convertible, didn't touch anything else. Door locks and power windows no longer work after this. I checked fuses on passenger side on right side of dash and don't see anything wrong. Any suggestions of what happened - do I need to reset something or what could have happened. They were working before this.

I have the same exact wires you do. What are the color codes for these wires? The responses people have are not the same or match what you and I have. Help please.
