Double din bezel & Kenwood head unit installed [Pics]

I have recently completed my installation of my light oak painted double din bezel by Dennis aka c5 bearsfan.

Along with the bezel, I have installed a Kenwood DNX-5120 head unit. The Kenwood plays DVD & has navigation so I don't get lost driving around town. :D I didn't do a full writeup documenting the installation, but I did take a few pics of the process.

I bought a Soundgate GMCRV2 wiring harness in order to retain the stock speaker setup. I've never installed a radio, but the wiring from the GMCRV2 to the new head unit was very straightforward.

I did run into a slight delay with the install, though. I was not aware that GM vehicles require an antenna adapter to hook up an aftermarket stereo. I stopped by my local Bestbuy installation bay to pick one up this afternoon.

The piece needed is a Metra 40-GM10 adapter.

Thanks to pentavolvo for providing me with this info.

The GMCRV2 instructions tell you to tap into the brown wire under the ignition for your 12v switched source.

These are some color comparison pics to some stock panel pieces. The light oak matches very well.

My first impressions are WOW this is an awesome stereo. The DVD images shown in these pics are washed out and don't represent how it looks in actuality. The Kenwood is a teriffic upgrade with all it's goodies and in particular the navigation is something that I'm going to have a lot of fun with.

The rear speakers are now full-range instead of the way they come from GM with no highs and a muddy sound. The rear speakers are now actually TOO loud and clear, so I put the fader toward the front so the rears don't draw so much attention to themselves.

I have never been a fan of bringing the outside color of my car to the inside, (as you can see from all the other pieces) so painting the bezel light oak was a no-brainer for me. Thanks to Dennis, the bezel came out very nice looking and I'm very happy with the finished product.

Looks great. My bezel arrived broken so I had to send it back to Dennis. He's been very helpful, and I'm sure I'll get my DNX 8120 installed before long. I can't wait.

Looks amazing!! Couple questions....where did you get the console done? and did you say it was just painted? or is it a new console? Also, the Lt. Oak letters on the passenger side dash....where did you get those?
