Modern radio C5 replacement?

What's the best modern replacement radio for a stock C5? Speakers... etc...

c5blkvetteguy 03-21-2009 11:34 PM

It depends on how thick your wallet is.

Double din or din and a half. What features do you want and how much do you want to spend. The sky is the limit.

Anything can be put in any car. It just depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. The sky is the limit.

The Bose system in Dad's 98 recently died, so he had a new system put in...

It really comes down to personal preference. Do you want it to play your Ipod (usually preferred)? Do you want it to have GPS in it, video screen, cell phone connectivity, etc... Really think about what you want and then look up reviews of the main brands that fit that description (Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC, etc)

I highly recommend replacing speakers too, adding an amp, and adding a sub. You have a killer car, why not compliment it with a killer stereo. I was driving around today with the radio blasting and it was just too cool of a feeling :) You can get a whole system for about $500 on up to $1600 for a killer one, or up even higher for superb brands you've probably never even heard of.

Not sure how much $$ you have to spend but if your like me and the vette comes after the wife, kids and house. Go to crutchfield's at http://www.crutchfield.com/ you can put in your make, year & model. They will show you what will work in your car. You can put together a stereo system that will blow away the stock system for under $400. even less. Which includes head unit, front & rear speakers, not including subs and amp. IMO a nice set of 6x9's in the front doors and 6.5's in the rear are all you need. Crutchfield also throws in an install kit for the dash & wire harness. G/L

:iagree: There's a section dedicated to pretty much every aspect of our cars. Take some time and explore all CF has to offer.

I half way agree with the crutchfield comment. It is definitely a great place to get information and read product reviews. Use it to help you pick out what you want, but then I would go to Ebay. I've bought all my stereo stuff there and saved tons of money. I even received a dead speaker once and they had a new one to me 2 days later!! Use the money you save to buy the subs :)

His name is Mike Stanzel and he is a forum member on here. He also made the adapter plates for the door speakers. The prices were fair and he shipped very quickly. Great experience.

John

Here is another peak at it before install... it is all aluminum:

Does this unit swap in for the stock unit in a 2004 C5 without needing a kit? If so, what model is that? Thanks
