heated seat wont heat

on an 06 coupe when i push the button for the drivers side heated seat the red light comes on for a second and turns off. Passenger seat works fine. Any clues? Thanks in advance.

check wiring harness below seat to see if it connected tight...also check for any wires that may have been worn to the metal from seat movement...may cause short.

Does the seat get warm indicating just a light failure or is it really turning off? Does the low setting work? The shop manual doesn't have a diagnostic for the seat heater really turning off so that is probably a bad seat heater control module. If it is just the light going out there is an 11 step procedure to find mostly a loose connection but eventually getting to replacing the switch and then the control module.

I went through this. Once was a bad harness and another was a bad ground.

Did you fart in that seat? Tell the truth. Did you???

Because if you did, you may have shorted out the heating element in the seat. :D

No, but i'll bet that would warm it up pretty good. Thanks for the free fix.

NO, The seat will not get warm. Thats what i dont understand because the heat for that seat was working all day untill the last time i took it out. If i push the button twice real fast the yellow light comes on but that also goes out in about a second. Thanks for the info.

Then I'll put my money on a bad control module but it could still be a short (ground) in the switch "off" side or a loss of ground to the module. If it is consistent in how long it takes to switch off that again points more toward the module than an intermittent connection/short.

I hope it's still under warranty.

It's the unit you will have to take it in.

This exact same thing is happening to my 08! Thanks for the post, I didn't even have to wait for a reply:thumbs:

What are the steps to troubleshoot?

mrgillies 05-13-2010 05:41 PM

Save your $$$ and move to Phoenix, we have no need for heated seats here, cooled ones are much sought after though

I found the fuse box under the passenger toe board after reading of it on. Didn't see mention of it in the owners manual- though it is there, just didn't READ it. All the fuses seem fine (drivers, passengers, and relay fuse). I moved the seat up and forward. While pressing the switch for heat, I could hear a relay under the seat or in the large yellow connector, clicking.

Thoughts?

I never did any further trouble shooting on the seat, I took the easy way out since it was still under warranty I let Mr. Goodwench fix it. They said the fuse (unknown location) was popped and they replaced it. They said if it were to do it again they would consider putting in an inline fuse (over my dead body).

They also speculated since my car was purchased in Boca Raton FL until I got it that it was possible the heated seat had never been tested and during the cars assembly it is not uncommon for a fuse to get blown while hooking stuff up.

Regardless my heated seat works although I never drive it when it is cold enough to use it.

pilot side seat heater in mine does the same thing and has been for a while... took it to the dealer for a TPS replacement and the tech didn't have the time left in the day to troubleshoot... Don't really need in during summmer time.. Just one of those things that make you:willy:.
Based on the way the seat looked when I replaced the seat back leather due to bolster wear, I would go with wiring problems
