Best Insurance For Garage Queen?

I am in need of classic auto insurance for my 67, and wonder what others can recommend? I did notice another thread in the posts, and have already contacted that company.

There are so many out there, and just wondering what is best?

Thanks

Heck - if its truly a garage queen, maybe you can get a 'rider' on your homeowner's policy....like you can for expensive jewelry, art collection, etc.. Worth a phone call maybe...

State Farm (stated value). Every couple of years I bring the car by so my Agent (since 1983) can physically see the car. Actually, I think he just tells me to come by to shoot the breeze. I have four regular auto policies plus one classic (my '66 Corvette) and one Street Rod (My '67 Nova) as well as my car trailer with him in addition to my homeowners policy.

I had State Farm (wife worked for them for 17 years) but then she found me Hagerty's...

REAL PLEASED.....

I've been using J.C. Taylor for my old cars since 1974. They didn't hesitate to offer payment to repair my 65 coupe, when it was rear ended a few years back.

There are four major players in the classic car insurance game; Grundy, Hagerty, American Collectors, and J.C. Taylor. While they are all similar, there are minor differences. I suggest that you do your homework and see which is best for your situation.

We have both our '64 and '91 with American Collectors and have never had a problem..., but have never filed a claim.

I have State Farm(agreed value) collector car insurance on my 56 and 64. Since I also have SF on my DD and my C6Z and my home, I get all kinds of discounts. I pay a lot less then quotes I got on line from the normal collector car Insurors.

Me too. They look at your "overall" policy and give you breaks according to how many vehicles/homes you're insuring, how long you've been insured with them, accident/claims history etc etc... We've made some claims over the years and never ever had any problems.

I guess that works ok for "theft", but what about "Fire" and "Collision" ??

I was happy with Hagerty insuring our '64, but in 2005 they refused to add on a '01 we purchased, saying it was too new. I switched both over to American Collector (American Hobbyist at the time) and they've been very good to work with. The "agreed to" value of the '64 has been adjusted up each year and the '01 has not been decreased.

We were paying $155/year for full coverage with $25K stated value on the '64 with American Collectors. This went up somewhat when we upped the stated value to $60K after the restification. I do have an appraisal at that value.

BTW, you really need to be careful with "stated value." You can state the value at $100K and pay the premium on $100K, but if the car is only really worth $25K, good luck trying to collect $100K if it is stolen/totalled. Get an bonafide appraisal!

part of the reason Hagerty is good at what they do is they focus on classic-collector cars, and can charge the lower premium associated witht he sort of use such cars see. I am perfectly happy that they don't insure a 2001 Tahoe, etc. - completely different animal.

yeah, I use Hagerty for my 65.

Geico actually has my bike now (high performance motorcycle)

Lib Mutual has the daily drivers, and the house.

Progressive has the boat.

In this greatly messed up state of North Carolina Insurance is state regulated but I have Geico for my > 1987 cars (Ford GT, F150, Cadillac and Cobra).

Moving to either Erie or Hagerty for the 69 Mach1, 73 Eldo and 65 Vette.

Hagerty for 1/2 the price of Geico gives me 3x better coverage and the rep stated no limits on driving - just make sure the cars they insure get locked up every night they require. perfect for a garage queen to the first post/ question.

Ironically enough the Erie insurance agent also sells Hagerty. Change will happen in May when Geico term is up

Savings to be applied to Vette restoration!

I have Hagerty and after a 12k claim will not use anyone else but the original poster is talking about a garage queen. If the car never leaves the garage all he needs is comprehensive, it sounds like he doesn't need anything special.
