Differential for C6 ST2 car
 

OEM differential on my 2005 C6 may have been damaged when hit in rear left wheel by dive bombing Mini.

as mentioned earlier, i am converting car to NASA ST2 from PTA - so can now run any kind of differential

what is best way to test if differential has been damaged?

If needs to be replaced, does anybody have experience with:
DTE?
Quaife?

except for headers/air box/tune - motor will be stock so rwhp will probably be about 370

car to get coil overs

Rockland Standard or RPM rebuilds

go with the stock diff... They are cheap and available everywhere.

To be competitive in ST2 , it is going to cost ALOT more than a PTA car..

I ought to get some coilovers too :)


Jonathan ....some of the fastest ST1,ST2 cars still have leaf springs alot like you just bought a year ago......

Why you doing ST2 instead of PTA ????? I would think that an C6 or C5Z would make damn fine PTA cars.......jumping into ST2 will give you a whole lot of things to spend money on to be competitive.....motors,aero,BBKs,$$$shoc ks,lightening the car, bigger wheels.

i think the car would be good for PTA at a place like main willow springs (and probably Miller) where transitions are more gradual and long high speed turns. at the short tracks in AZ, the car just real hard to drive - car transitions very poorly.

although, i wonder if diff has been bad all along.

i think to drive a leaf spring corvette close to a coil over is possible - just real hard to do. much harder to do at a place like Phoenix International Raceway - a Roval with lots of walls.

because i work 70+ hours a week, i want to be able to get into the car and not worry as much about trying to find the thin line between snap oversteer and inability to turn in.

any rate, perhaps above a little hyperbole.

Leaf springs have nothing to do with making a car easy to drive. My C5 has leafs and is the best handling car I have ever driven. Including multiple race cars. Its also stupid easy to drive fast on the track.

sounds like you are having fun with the car - with leaf springs. that's great.

curious about your impressions.
many people feel it is much easier to drive for example an E36 M3 to its limit compared to a corvette, viper, etc.

don't know times for Norcal tracks but wonder what kind of times you run at Willow Springs?

what's the car like at Buttonwillow compared to a c-mod BMW E36 M3?

i drove my BMW E30 with 189 rwhp and coil overs to within two seconds of my C6 vette at PIR the first time I had the E30 on the track - the E30 was on used 2 year old Toyo RA-1's.

Back in '02 or '03 (can't remember) when I was racing my original #3 American Iron mustang I was running 1:30 flat at WS. My C5 I'd say would be several seconds faster although I've never ran it there. I haven't ran BW with the C5 either, but I the AI record for #13 CW is a 1:59 I believe. That being said, I would estimate my C5 on hoosier R's to be at least a 1:55 and even faster on better tires. Keep in mind my C5 is 3400+ with me in it and has a stock LS1 motor with headers.
