car in for service, tip the shuttle driver?

so my car just had its latches repaired, and the dealer didn't have a loaner car. I only work a few miles from the dealer, so I didn't mind the shuttle service.

My question, do I tip him? Sorry, this is my first new car, and I'm not used to this service.

Thanks

No, driving the shuttle is like a work break for them. When not driving the shuttle they are sweeping the floors and changing oil. Getting out is already a vacation.

thanks, I wasn't sure, but didn't want to seem like a jerk if it was proper to do it

I always give them a few dollars :yesnod:

What, it's going to kill you to give the guy a buck or two?

If you're not carrying any bills smaller than $100, then it might.

I give every quarter...No Tip is required...

Jimmy 2 Times 05-05-2009 05:13 PM

well, I just got back, and offered the guy a few dollars, and he wouldn't take it.......I don't know if it was because he wasn't allowed to take tips, or from the fact that he was a horrible driver, and almost got me tboned making a left turn

VET4LES 05-05-2009 05:27 PM

My opinion is no tip is necessary.

MARSC6 05-05-2009 05:29 PM

I may tip the mechanic but I wouldn't tip the shuttle driver.

That's an old trick, my friend. . .

Do you tip the shuttle driver from the airport to the hotel and vice a versa? I think this would be the same kind of situation.

dvilin 05-05-2009 05:55 PM

I would not tip the shuttle driver.

phileaglesfan 05-05-2009 07:33 PM

The guy from the airport is usually helping me with my bags and going a longer distance in most cases.

Tipping has really got extreme, now people expect tips for everything and they don't even say thank you when you do give them one.

I never thought of tipping the shuttle driver until I joined Corvette Forum. One dealership I used seemed to have entry level techs drive the shuttle. Another hired retired guys. I never tipped them.

I did offer a tip to the tech who stayed overtime to finish my car, but he refused it. I thought it might be a dealership policy.

Just getting to drive a Corvette should be "tip" enough. However if you would like to give him something that should be up to you.

Mad*Max 05-05-2009 08:19 PM

I don't think that a tip would be necessary.

theofel 05-05-2009 08:35 PM

Only ricers don't tip!

StoplightWarrior 05-05-2009 08:41 PM

I ALWAYS offer tips to service people. I worked as a Valet for several years, and though 99% of people do know what's up, let me tell you, we REMEMBER the 1% who don't tip. That is not a good thing.

I respect people who do a good job and are not being paid well for their services. I don't tip my doctor or dentist, for example, but I will always offer the moving men, delivery guy, drivers, etc a tip. They'll turn you down if they're not supposed to take it. Otherwise, they'll graciously accept it and you'll know that you were supposed to tip them. Simple enough, really.
