checking cam lift...

I will be installing my engine very soon, but I want to make sure that the cam(along with numerous other items) is ok. Is there any way to make sure the lobes don't have any flat spots and are ok without actually removing the cam? Is there a way to tell by measuring travel of the rocker arms? How do I do this if it's possible at all? THanks

Re: checking cam lift... (TravMsns)

This can be done using a magnetic base and 1" travel indicator. You simply put the tip on either the rocker arm(directly over the pushrod) for checking advertised lift divided by the rocker ratio, OR get your reading of full lift by positioning the indicator tip on the spring retainer. Just be sure you have the indicator positioned correctly or you will get bad readings.

Get these from a industrial tool store. I buy stuff like this from Macmaster.com http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/108/...all/stands.gif http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/108/...l/2092ap3s.gif
