The 421 is finally home.
 

Well I finally received a package yesterday, and it was a long time coming. I have wanted to build a motor for years now, and finally the finished product is in my garage. It was a nice feeling when I took of the top portion of the crate to discover the 421 which was built by a forum member named Jim Barth.

Jim spent a lot of time in regards to this motor, and a big thanks to Jim for putting up with me. Jim really went the extra mile, and he really has a passion/knowledge for building engines.

I don’t know exactly when the motor is going in the car as I have a few more things to buy. I am hoping to have it fully tuned by July 09’, and have some dyno numbers, and more importantly some mph trap speed which truly shows how much power the ole’ 88 will have. The goal has been to trap in the 125 mph range naturally aspirated. The motor is a fully forged bottom end, and the NOS (150 shot) is always a possibility down the road.

It is nice to have the motor finally planted in my garage. It will obviously be even more enjoyable feeling the estimated 550chp down the country roads. I believe that good things come to those who wait. I went with some stout parts, and these things aren't cheap.

I'm speechless :eek: That is one sweet motor..... I want one of those :D What size heads are on that 421? An that holley throttle body is bad azz too. Like I said... I'm at a loss of words. I can't wait to see it in the car :cheers:

Congrats! It's been an adventure just to this point! There have been bannings, you ran "Revolving Door Speed Shop" for a few months...

Can't wait to hear the results. I'm backing off the 4" stroke and will probably be doing a 421 myself.

I will be the idiot .. how did you get to 421 inches? What length rods can you get in there as well?

First, I was going to do a LPE219, SR, and TFS heads on my stock shortblock. Then after chatting with Mos90 I decided to go with an engine builder in Rome NY who was recommended by him. Mos90 having been around the C4 scene for quite sometime suggested that I sell the SR, and the TFS, and get some street port AFR's, and a Miniram for the 383. Let's just say my parts sat in the engine builders shop for 6 months, and I backed out of the 383, not 2 mention I lost $500 out of that deal.

Then I met Jim on the forum, and he mentioned that I should forgot all about the 383, and he would build me a 421. He recommended that I sell the street ports AFR's, and get some comp port AFR's and stick with the Miniram. I pretty much did exactly what Jim recommeded as he has experience with 421's.

Yes, I have bought, and sold a few parts. But at least I paid to have something built in the end. When you build something, and you don't take shortcuts, it takes alot of hard earned money.

But the funny thing was, I was within my budget which doesn't happen very often. I guess I owe that too Jim. :thumbs:

I used a Bowtie GM block. If you look hard enough, you might find one for around $1200 or so......

received your pm. Jim runs at our local strip here RMR, and his car is "ugly fast". You picked the right guy to build "that" motor. All I can say is hang on when you punch it.....your goin to have fun
