Car Show Judging...some tips I would like to share.

Just thought I would pass along information that I have learned.

Car Show Judges take points away for the following:

1. Curb Rash
2. Any scratches or peeling going on with your roof (even if only noticeable from the inside of the car/bottom of the roof) (this means if you have a layer sandwiched in between other layers of the coating that is de-laminating, well you better be looking for a new roof)
3. Wheel fender wells not being properly cleaned
4. Any spec of dirt or noticeable debris found in the interior or on the carpet.
5. Too clean and plain in the trunk (if you have nothing back there) they feel it's just too plain and stock like (for newer corvettes such as the C5's your going to need to add something)

:iagree::iagree:

Totally agree with you, but all judged show by judges are/have different opinions on what's being judged ..I found out that our local judges also look for:

1.) First Aid Kit ( Visable)
2. Fire Extingusher ( Visable)
3.) Clean to spotless under carriage( No leaky Butts either)
4.) Receipent must be around car when judged.
5.) Owners Manual ( visable)

Just to name a few things...Good thread to help someone...

Excellent!
I do have a fire extinguisher in clear view (not under the seat)
I'll have to get the owners manual out next time.
Iam always around the car when judged too.
My undercarriage is pretty clean with no leaky butt (so Iam good there).
(I'll have to bring mirrors next time...some of the shows like that)

Excellent additiona tips there!...yeh maybe this can turn into the
Official Car Show Tip Post and become a sticky...that would be good!

So do I lose points since mine are almost completely covered in rubber? Or can I throw some tire shine on it and win some shows?

I'll let you decide that one lol...but I think that would be more like trying to put a corvette car cover on a mustang. You can cover it up but it's still crap underneath lol. (no offense to mustang owners...it was just an anology):smash:

I guess my car will never be in a show.

Every show is different. I am involved in three judged shows ever year and I make the following announcement at each show before it starts. Sort of like the car show Pledge of Allegiance.

The Car Show Pledge
"I promise and I swear I will be a good sport. I won't whine or complain if I don't win a trophy.
I will always remember this is supposed to be fun, it's not life or death, and it's only a hobby. So help me God."
:willy:

All depends if it's an NCRS type show or a wash & wax show.

It also helps to have a nicely made poster board listing your unique mods/additions.

Every show I've been to have different rules, different criteria that they look for, etc. Sometimes, even going to the same show in different years gets different criteria.

I enter the shows to talk to other Vette people and meet new friends. If someone gets too critical of my daily driven modified Vette, then they it really doesn't bother me because that's not what I'm there for.

If you go to car shows expecting to win the $3.95 plastic trophy, you'll probably be disappointed whether you win or lose... ;)

Go to share with the enthusiasts.

I found that at nearly every show I attended there was always something different that the judges looked for - especially when two cars were very close in the judging and they needed to pick just one.

Just do your best to get the car detailed - and sometimes it pays to watch how they judge some of the cars before yours just to have some time to make last minute adjustments.

I never bother to fill out the dash placards they pass out.

It's always fun when they start asking where the owner is and I tell them I have no idea.

A few years back I was asked to judge the Vette class at a July 4th show in small town Nebraska. I always wanted to be on the other side at least once so I said sure. Now, I've never yacked it up with a judge when I'm showing, but I soon found out others do. I had a guy tell me his sad story about how he never wins. One wanted to buy me lunch.. A guy with a '73 pointed out all of the cleaning he'd done, except for the bugs he picked up in his grill on the ride there....

In the end I went with a '63 Coupe for 1st. Super clean Vette & a owner that kept his mouth shut. Like I do at shows..........

Thanks for the info. For me, the best part of a car show is shooting the breeze with the other cars guys. I don’t get too worked up if I don’t win a $5.00 trophy. Whatever floats your boat.:cheers:

I agree. For me, it's about seeing what other guys do to their Corvettes. However I think we all know someone who has spent $50K on mods to win $500 worth of trophies and plaques!

To the OP; what do you mean when it comes to the trunk being too plain? Besides my golf clubs, what else to they want to see?

bowtiebubba 08-03-2009 07:26 PM

Always make sure you raise & clean the headlights. Ive been asked twice to show my headlights, they use that for a tie breaker. Both times mine were clean.

I have learned after several shows that its not all about winning, but meeting people and enjoying others reaction while looking at your ride!! That is an award by itself!! No mater what happens you come out a winner either way!!http://www.smileyshut.com/smileys/ne...-oscar-172.gif

c59001 08-03-2009 08:52 PM

oh..make sure you have one of those "crying kids" leaning on your car and a few toy cars that resemble your car sitting on your motor.

That's it brother.....

And if you see a little kid really eyeballing your Vette ask him if he'd like to sit behind the wheel......

When you see the look on that face you'll get the best feeling in the world, I guarantee.......:yesnod:

And maybe create a future Vette owner.......:D..
