Suspension Squeaks - What to do
Two of my C5 Convertibles have developed pronounced squeaks when going over bumps. 1998 with 45K miles and a 2001 with 70K miles. Obviously, I suspect sway bar bushings and other suspension bushings. Does anyone know of a solution by "lubrication"? The help is much appreciated. Squeaks are in both cold and warm weather at this point, albeit louder in the cold weather.
Thanks, Rich |

[QUOTE=00 Rooster;1571150111]could be squeaking at the sway bar bushings. you could put some dielectric grease in them. I did that when I upgraded to the c6 z51's. hope that helps.QUOTE]
:iagree: I had the same thing on my '98 Z51. It's a pretty simple job to loosen the bushing clamps and grease the bushings...might as well change to poly bushings while you are there. Cheap and easy! |

I just had the same "squeaky" problem show up on an '02 w/ 50,000 mi. I did some searching here (there's been a lot of info written), everything seemed to point to the sway bar bushings. I took them off, cleaned them up, lubed with silicon grease, but squeaks were still there. I could tell the squeak was coming from the right rear suspension. So I removed the wheel for better access, and sprayed silicone lube on each side of the upper and lower A frame bushings, tried again, squeak was gone. I was so proud! :) When I took car out 2 days later, squeak was back. :ack:
So now what to do? At least I've got the culprit located. I just don't know whether to spray the heck out of it with the silicon lube, or is there some other lube that would be better? I DO NOT want to disassemble the complete suspension to get into the bushings! Whatever I do, I figured I'd do all the suspension bushings at all 4 corners. Any thoughts? |
i have the same problem, but is in the Right front side :(

I've got approx 76k mi on my '02 vert. It was making very obnoxious creaking sounds going over speed bumps, in particular.
My dealer tried lubing the sway bar bushings. No good. Still creaked. Wound up replacing the sway bar links and bushings. Also the front leaf spring, which was cracking. Tie rod ends in the rear were loose so they replaced them, too. All under warranty. Now the car rides like it's got new tires. |
Has anyone applied lube to the bushings that has really worked in removing the noise issue? If so, what kind of Lube?
