Radio suggestions...
Hey everyone. Well, my CD player has finally had it. I've been running the cleaning disc through it trying to get it to work, but it just won't fix it. I'm going to pull the radio out and get it fixed, and I'd like to put it on the shelf and put a newer radio in its place. Something with an auxillary port for an iPod or something.
Does anyone know of a receiver that I can put in place that doesn't require any modification? I don't want to have to alter the opening, remove any bracketry or anything, as I'd like to be able to put the original one in place if/when needed. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks Constantine |
Im running a pioneer Avic Z series. It will require modding the back side of the console deep inside where the Delco BLOSE units back end used to set. So Scratch that one off your list. It my be better to target your questions better if we knew what you wanted to spend and features. GC
Or Dr Dons can rebuild your unit. |

:iagree: I kept my radio stock and recently had Dr. Don's do a rebuild of the CD. He did a great job! |
What is it with these CD players in these Bose units?? My whole unit was replaced about 8 years (20,000 miles) ago. The new CD player didn't have 20 hours on it and it stopped working. There must be something common that can be "adjusted". Or, maybe a BIG hammer would do it?

That’s why they call them Bloze Head Units. But realistically your taking about 80s designed architecture that’s at least in most cases 20-25 years old. It’s the age not the mileage on these systems.
Kinda hard to complain when you think about it that way |

QUOTE] :iagree: You can get a Z1 for $500 to $650 Via Ebay. (y0u have to be patient and wait for the right buy) It has the option for Bluetooth, XM / Sirius, has a 30 gig hd (for storage of cd's and navigation), and ipod. Fits in like it was ment for it!!!! http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t.../navsystem.jpg |
If you don't want the video screen/touch panel approach (I like to feel buttons so I can make adjustments while driving), I'd recommend the Kenwood DPX503:

Hi Constantine!
There is this area of the CF: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/audio-electronics-20/ but not C4 or ZR-1 specific and beyond my interest and abilities. If you are going to another unit you have to remember that our speakers have their own amplifiers so you might have to change out the speakers also. |

Did you have to do modify anything behind it, or did it really fit right into place? Edit: Scratch that, this is the Z series GC was talking about, right? Thanks. Constantine |

Did you have to make any alterations under the dash for that to fit? I like the buttons, too. Does this unit also work with the stock speakers?

I took all the stock stuff out, no sense trying to make 20 year old speakers sound good. I put 8" subwoofers in the rear speaker locations, and 5.25" components in the front pods. Amp behind the passenger seat. Also got rid of the cheesy carpet on the stock speaker covers, all it does is muffle the sound. Used black speaker cloth instead (I have saddle interior, but black floormats, so it works, IMHO).

Would this unit work with the stock speakers, though, if I didn't want to remove the stockers?

Minor modifications. You do take the shrowd out from behind the radio, but it is for "storage" and wires. If you don't mind a little work and a little more $$$, it's WELL worth it. Cheers David Those Black Chrome wheels look somewhat different. Maybe it's my eyesight. LOOKS GREAT!!! But Ruby misses them! Marty 1FUNZR1 |
