FYI, the coolant temp sensor is critical to the engine operation via the PCM. As requested, if you are having problems, what problems and why this sensor? If it isn't working correctly, you'll probably have major mixture issues and worse. Codes?

Right behind the alternator. Make sure the engines cool when you remove it or your feet are going to be soaked in scalding hot coolant.

When I turn the ignition on all needles peg all the way over to the right as they always do including temp gauge and then back to the left. Then I start the car and the temp gauge starts at 0 and works it's way up to normal operating temperature around 180 or so and then all of a sudden the temp gauge will peg all the way to the right and stay there. When it does this the engine does not seem or smell hot or overheated whatsoever. Car runs as good as it always does. Thought the temp gauge would be the cheapest & quickest place to start with to solve this problem. Any thots? this reply to lucky131969 also for any ideas you may have. Thanx for any help.

yes,I have the same problem with my 2001 corvette. I think its a bad coolant temp sensor.everything seams to be working fine.hav you got any answers?

Same here!!!
I just installed long tube headers on my c5. It is very easy to break the coolant temperature sensor when installing the headers. Easy fix autozone had the part to replace it. As I started the car I noticed the car's temperature hand was pegged out within 10 seconds. Now I'm wondering if I possibly got a defective sensor or ???. Everything was fine before I damaged the sensor.
