Stock 96 LT1 faster than Stock 99 LS1??

i know a guy with a Stock 96 C4 Vert "collectors edition" in auto and he swears up and down his car does 12s and is faster than my Stock 99 C5 Coupe 6 spd..

is this true? i never argued with the guy. i just said ok, because i dont really know much about the C4. BUUUT i do find it alittle hard to believe :smash: i heard the 96 Manual w/ LT4 is pretty fast but an auto vert?

if me and this guy raced a 1/4 mile and we both drove pefect, who would win?

Plasticman 10-24-2009 09:26 PM

You would (unless his 96 is not really "stock").

Retro99 10-24-2009 09:33 PM

his car IS stock.. its all original in great shape really low miles

Ikester 10-24-2009 09:45 PM

Its sometimes harder for a 6-spd to click off the ETs until youve perfected launching.

Oh and your C5 will blow the doors off him every single time motor to motor. That is why i sold my 96 C4 for a C5.

 good at least im getting an unbiased factual opinion being that uve had both.. well maybe alittle bias :D

The LS is more powerful than the LT1, and the C5 is lighter.
Stock for stock, Your 99 should beat him by about a second:thumbs:

no clue, only the 96 LT4 6spd would have a chance against a similar 99. it would probably beat an auto, a 6spd with a good driver..ehh..little harder. the fastest i've ever seen a mostly 100% stock c5 coupe go is 12.6 and by mostly stock i mean k&n and lower thermostat. great driver, cold air and drag radials.

c5blkvetteguy 10-24-2009 10:45 PM

My old C4 vert would have no chance against my C5 coupe! No matter who is faster...at least he has a vette and not a honda!

i dont have any intentions of racing him or even getting into the debate with him about it. i was just curious for my own knowledge. when we meet up its all good conversation and of course a vette is a vette no matter wat.

i was just making sure mine is better

The LT1 was a great motor. The reverse cooling system and ports for dry-sump were great features. It made good power and torque, but the torque was quite "peaky" and did not come on from idle to well.

The LS1 was an improvement in many aspect. The best part was the additional HP and high torque numbers just off idle.

Bottom line: LS1 over LT1 in stock configuration.

coolbubba 10-25-2009 12:12 AM

LT4=330rwhp

That's what mine dynoed at with 35k for what it's worth (stock). Ran in the 12's with bolt ons...I don't think the LT1 could do it though.

:lol::lol:I read the title of your post and almost spit wine on my monitor.:lol::lol:

Ask him what drugs he's smoking!;) You have more HP and TQ and your car is lighter. PERIOD! You will obliterate him. :D:thumbs:

I had an 85 automatic coupe. Yea,,,, the 96 had lots of improvements over the 85 BUT,,,the C5 is a REVOLUTIONARY improvement over ANY C4.

JW Motorsports 10-25-2009 12:38 AM

You said LT1 so I'm guessing he has the auto. If LT1 you will ride on him all day (beat him). I used to ride on my friends all day that's how I know.

sami85L98 10-25-2009 08:57 AM

U will take him, but it will be close race though, he might loose you by about maybe 1 or 2 car lengths. Assuming both have same 60 ft time. Upto 1/8th miles he might beat you or super close, once 1/8th mile crossed than u will take over him. C5's are high revving motor, it will be like pull pull pull....near 1000 ft mark.

Edit: i see its LT1, my bad was thinking LT4. Yep u will take him easily.

Retro99 10-25-2009 06:55 PM

good.. all good things to hear :bigears

if he wasnt selling it, id see if he wanted to take it to the track and race me.. ya know, since his car is so much faster.

red69coupe 10-25-2009 07:16 PM

Now early stock c5's have to watch out for lt4 motors because I have seen quite a few 97 -98 c5's loose to lt4's stock vs stock. The lt4's have been known to have more then 330hp they were rated for. Also it comes down to driver more then people like to admit. If its an auto 1t1 and you know how to launch you will win!

But i agree, he drives a vette...not a honda, let him talk

a stock '96 C4 LT4 6spd is as fast a stock '97-04 C5 6spd. They are equal

I've got to agree owning both. The LT4 is no slouch. I personally found the LT based engines have a little more torque down low. The gearing between the 6spd and A4 will come into play as well. It would really boil down to driver skill...
