Fiberfab Centurion Stingray racer
I have just recently found a Fiberfab Centurion that has been stored away for 45yrs.. I believe it may be the last one out there..it has the driver hump, fiberglass bucket seats, and the solid axle floor pan as well as the winshield frame intact...I have been in touch with the Fiberfap co. which is still in existance and the new owner does not have much info on the Centurion. It sounded like GM stepped in and stop production sometime in the 60s after seeing how close the reproduction was to the 59 Stingray racer..
If anyone can add any useful info that would be great, I am deciding whether to build it in a nostaglia form from the 60s.. thks |
If I remember correctly, the body never really made it into production. There were 4 prototypes and 3 of them were setup for the C1 chassis, while the 4th was setup for a 65 chassis. The bodies were built in 1965, and I have no doubt that their decision not to produce the bodies was influenced by pressure from GM. GM could not have been very happy with them copying the 59 SS car!
Some guy sold one of these cars a couple of years ago for $70K. claiming that it was the styling prototype for the 59. That would have been a good trick since this body was built almost 6 years later! I'll bet there was one unhappy buyer out there when he found out it was not what it was represented as.:toetap: Do a Google search on it, I found some pretty good pics and info when I looked it up a couple of years ago. I think that it would be a great project, and not the same old Cobra kit car like everyone else has! Regards, John McGraw |
thankyou. I have always had stock original old vettes, so this is a stretch for me..The lines of the body are just beautiful, and it is something different, thats what I like about it.. I contacted Fiberfab and the owner was excited to hear about the find, but thats the old body that they really no little about...
I am trying to figure out a value on it..Not easy.. thks, Bill http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z...ray-Racer.aspx |

I am still not bright enough to post a website link but try www.fiberfab.org for a link to the Centurion (link onto the Photo Album ). There are two photos that make it look like a mean racer with some serious StingRay racer overtones. And serious side fender vents (yowza !).

What a cool Vette. The SS racer is why I love the C2 so much. Really stuck in my head as a kid.

Looks like the Fiberfabs use a stock C2 windshield, is this true?

A guy in Carson City has one and he's had it for a long time.
He drove it last August at the Monterey Sports Reunion. It's close to original (with some engine mods like electric cooling fans). http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/z...psbdd79605.jpg |
