Tonawanda B/B production ended today

I'm surprised that no one here on the C1 & C2 forum has posted about this. I was driving to my dad's funeral today when I heard it on CBS news. Here are links to posts in the C6 and C3 forums about it.

Sad day indeed. A lot of history going away. I find the differences in replies between the C-3 guys and the C-6 guys interesting. Some of the replies in the C-6 thread, #2 & #3, are very sad coming from, using the term loosely, "Corvette people".

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Jim

more than history going away........

at one time the Buffalo area had a GM stamping plant, a gear and axle plant, and the Tonawanda Forge and Foundry.

IMO it's the usa worker and the his standard of living that's going away on the wheels of mostly asian cars. Whether the asian cars are made in the usa or not, the asian car companies take their profits home to build corporate offices and engineering and test facilities - where the best jobs are.

:iagree: Sorry to hear of your loss.

I checked the threads in the C3 section; those guys were as upset as we are. The C6ers were, "who cares?" So I sent 'em this link to let 'em know the rat motor is far from dead:

Just the thing to give a snooty ZR-1 driver a big fit.

Ron, I’m very sorry about your loss. Dads are special and we carry a bit of them in us forever.

Ron,
Sorry to hear of your loss....it is a very tough thing to lose a Dad. I wish you comfort in your sorrow.

My Dad is buried not far from you in Rose Hill Cemetery right off Rt.6 in Putnam Valley. It took me months to stop dialing him up out of habit.

Regards,

Fred

When I heard of the Tonowanda closing I thought it was kind of the end of an era with all of the great motors that came out of there.

That is nothing though to losing your dad Ron. I still miss my dad for the last 20 years. I am sure you have some good memories though-Jim

Sorry about your dad :sadangel:

Guess the BB crates will still be made in Mexico.

Ron, So sorry to hear about your father and sorry to hear about the loss of 150 jobs so close to Christmas.

Ron,
Sorry to hear of your loss, nothing harder than losing a parent or a child. May your father rest in peace and for you to have fond memories of him during the holiday season.

Well said.

Ron, I'm very sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad 10 years ago, and it feels like he's riding shotgun with me when I'm out in the old car. He got me started as a mechanic when we fixed up my first Hotrod. I hope you have many fond memories you can look back on over the years to come.

D.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of your father, Ron. My dad has been gone for about eight years and he was the reason I got interested in Corvettes. He had a 1960 back in the mid-60s that he sold when he was sent to Vietnam in 1965. Sold it for $1500. Nice car. I think of him everytime I fire up my 1963 coupe. Keep the good memories of your Dad, Ron.
