Need help with power rack and pinion hoses
What size are the end fittings at pump and at the rack?
Also will I need a flow control valve to reduce the pressure? I would like to make up a set out of braided hose, has any body else gone this route, if so where did you buy your materials? Thanks for your help. Riggs. |
I had to go to a Napa in the area that still makes hoses. It was pretty hard to find a place that still made hoses. Anyway, if you know what kind of rack you have, Grand Am for example, when you find a place that makes hoses you can tell them it is a GA rack and you need custom hoses. They should be able to pull a GA hose and check the ends for the correct fittings.

Thanks Eddie, I seen that Jegs sells the braided hose and fittings

Sorry I can't help on fitting sizes man, but I installed my systems with junkyard hoses....all I did was cut end and splice together with the correct pump fitting using a 3/8 brass compression fitting...been there since '02... driven daily...

I went to a hose shop... they told me that the type of fitting is very hard to find. They didnt even have it. They said to go to a junk yard and get the stock hoses and they might be able to use those.
Still running no power steering pump on mine and love it.:cheers::thumbs: |

I believe I have found through my searching that the
power steering pump thread size is 3/8'' npt. I still need to know what the size is on the grand am rack, I think it is a 6AN thread, does anybody know if this is true? Thank for any help, Riggs |
Hey Vette427 sbc, with you running no pump how
did you get the fluid into the rack, and how did you tell if it was full of fluid and with no air in the system. All the fluid has been pushed out of the rack while I have been mocking up the setup for my brackets and tie rods. Thanks for any help, Riggs. |

you should read some of the rack and pinion posts by Jim Shea on the flow control valves..from what i recall its really the valve inside the rack that makes all the difference.

Does anybody know what size threads are in the Grand Am rack
in both the supply and return hoses? This would be very helpful as I am trying to buy a set from one of our vendors, and want to be sure before I buy them. Thanks, Riggs. |
Still needing info.
