I just finished this and just haaad to show you.
 

Its a '65 Monogram 1/8 kit, original issue, PC126. With a blue plastic body, blue plastic interior, black everything else, with some chrome, it made for a very boring model. Pictured is a build that I just finished today. I painted it with the original Chevrolet Code FF Nassau Blue with a clearcoat. I couldn't find the aqua blue for the interior so I did it in black. 65 Corvettes were available in the Nassau Blue/black int combination. I detailed the flags on the emblems to give it that extra oomph. I'm quite proud of it myself.

I am just about to start my 65 1/8 scale. My is the red version, which was issued in 1975. I am thinking of doing it Goldwood Yellow or Milano Maroon, either way, I think it will have a black interior. I will also post pics as I progress.

I love those old 1/8th scale Monogram kits. I still have an original issue (blue car) 65 kit, the red reissue 65, the orange 78, and the red 85 kit, that I never gotten around to building and a Monogram prebuilt store display version of the 78. I also have the Big "T" reissue from the late 70's, the "Street Rod T". I think my favorite was the Big Duece, 32 Ford though. I built a couple of those as a kid.

Monogram also did an 82 Collectors Edition. I've looked at them a number of times, but never bought one. If I could find a donor 1/8th 4bbl carb, intake and air cleaner, I'd buy the 82 kit and build a replica of our 81. I just don't want to canibalize a good 78 kit, for an intake, carb and air cleaner!

There have been at least 4 issues of the 1/8 '65 Vette kit. I haven't built any plastic models in a few years, but those big kits are kind of fun to work with...provided you have somewhere to display them. I made one into a '63 Grand Sport, and converted a couple into roadsters.

One thing that always baffled me was why Monogram/Revell never reissued the '78 kit, especially given the popularity of the pace car. Nowadays if you want to build one as a pace car, you either have to gamble that the 30-year-old decals are usable, or find someone who can make you a new set. I made a 1/8 '78 into a phantom convertible once just for fun.

At my age(46), if I get back into plastic models they'd probably have to be 1/8, my eyes just ain't what they used to be! :lol:

I think the 78 has never been reissued because Monogram modified the molds to create the 82 Collectors Edition. To turn it back into the 78, would require new/modified molds for the nose, rear bumper, rear glass, etc. There's probably not enough market out there anymore, to justify the cost of the work on the molds.

I'd love to see the 78 reissued, but I doubt it will ever happen.:( The 82 and 85 have never been reissued either. It would be great to have them reissued too, but I wonder what they would sell for in todays economy?

You think 46 is bad, wait untill you reach 56. I have to take off my glasses with "progressive" lenses, half of the time, just to work on my 1/1 scale "model".:lol:

Pushing 60, and sometimes I use a jewellers spectacle, works great for the little details.

As far as $$ for the kits, the Monogram 82 Silver Anniversary in complete and good condition is priced @ $200. The 78 and 85 around $150 or more. The 82 IMO is very beautiful; the kit is and box is almost too beautiful to build. If I had the room, I'd get two. One to build and one to look at unbuilt.

Best way to get a vintage model is open box with all the parts inventoried or still in the bags. With a still sealed kit, you run the risk of the body being cracked.

Wowwwww rasrboy, that is totally hateful! (that means its awesome). Award winner I see. The little touches like the rubber around the vent windows, the key in the ignition, the white line tires. There was a set of finned wheels on ebay once and I kick myself for not snapping them up. I almost did the white seats and door panels but was unable to get the separations between the seats, console, and 'carpet' precise at all. I was too lazy to do the rubber hoses and the bumper brace underneath. I put my antenna away because I'm afraid of breaking it. My undercarriage is not correct to the car but I wanted it to stand out.

Just ran across this thread after looking for some information on the Monogram 1/8 1965 kit. I have had one of these kits in the back of a closet for a few years and I'm looking for some information on it.

Somebody had started on it as the engine and trans are painted and installed but that's about all. Some of the small parts have been removed from the trees and I can't tell if any of the small parts are missing.

The box is pretty well torn up but there are no missing pieces to the box top.

Can anyone tell me about the blue plastic '65? When were they made? I understand the blue car is the 1st generation of the '65. Is there any way to place a value on the kit given that somebody has already started on it??

Search it on ebay, there are a few for sale there.

Currently, a fellow is selling a complete kit, unbuilt, parts inventoried, and box in good shape. His price is $320, buy it now. With partially built models, of course you run the risk of missing parts, especially crucial ones like steering knuckles and wheel retainers. You also run the risk of undoing someone else's mistakes. Prices and sale prices span a wide range for partially built models.

I see three on ebay from $175.00 to $395.00. There has been others from time to time. These seem to be a bit high priced and have been there for some time, relisted.
The average that I have seen them go for, and I have been watching, is about $75.00 to $125.00.
