my zf6 just started to make a noticable whine in 1 and 3
never mind it's normal, just didn't notice before

take out the fill plug and check the level 17mm allen
You should be able to feel the fluid with your finger if not go ahead and drain and refill the transmission anyway with the correct fluid. It will quiet down but if it returns after a short time then something else is going on. then it would be time to call the zf doc. |
Zf6
This link contains good info: http://www.zfdoc.com/techinfo.htm
It will not specifically address your whine noise, but a fluid change may solve your problem. Scroll down to: Transmission Oil. (note the recommendation for BMW motor oil 2.2qts.). If you are going to remove the drain plug, be prepared to use a socket with a breaker bar, or an extension pipe slipped over the drive. Do not use a worn socket, to prevent rounding the plug. The plug is tight. If the fluid change doesn't correct the whine, a worn input shaft bearing may be the cause. Good luck. |
thanks, the fluid was replaced around 6000 miles ago, the penzoil stuff, shifts fine even perfect, only the whine....
i will have it hoisted tommarrow, |
Make sure you can get fill plug off first. Fill plug might not come off or strip and if you took drain plug off first and drained all fluid. Ya screwed
