Father and Son painting his 1980 Trans Am.

My Son is a senior in high school. He got passed his driver's Lic. today. When he was 14, we found this TA. It ran, but had been put away dirty. Its a 80 TA. 4 wheel discs, SBC from birth. # matching 305. In the past four years my son and I have rebuilt the motor, the turbo 350, the suspension, brakes, everything. All we have left to do is finish the body and paint. We are painting it black with the gold bird and rims. We have every thing to finish this car.

When we got the car, It had been impounded by the cops and held at an impound yard. It was beat. We ended up with it. Some one had cobbed on a Formula 400 hood and front end on it. We like the look of the smokey car, so we bought the hood and shaker scoop off ebay. We cut the fenders and put the side scoops back in.

This hood was rough. Got it from some tweeker looking dude from pamdale. It was the only hood I could find so I bought it. It will be nice and strait:cool: when we lay the bird on there. Its still got some work.

Hello Mike, Thats Great that you and your son get to do this project togather. Its looking good !!! It makes me miss doing body work and painting, Thats what I use to do for a living untill the doctors Pulled me off of that type of work. My lungs was having a bad reaction to the chemicals and had to give it up. Anyways I'm looking forward to seeing it after you guys are finished.

That's going to be one great looking bird once it's done:thumbs:. I have a '78 Camaro that I still have to finish. I put it on hold while I get the Vette finished up. Can't wait to see it finished:cheers:.

Nice work, Mike... Looks like you've really worked hard to get all the panels lined-up so that the panel gaps are uniform. Having done that several times myself, I know just how hard that can be sometimes. Keep up the good work and post up more progress pics. I'm sure that that's going to be a "keeper" for your son! :)

Looks like you're doing it up right!

Fantastic that you both are sharing this T/A project. Memories that are, and will alway's be priceless for you both.

btw, even if non original motor, (as I alway's thought the 4.9 & 4.9 litre
(301) Turbo, were the motor's in an '80 car.

I'm happy that'll be one bird without the enemic, and P.O.S 4.9 litre
(301).
Turbo or not, the 4.9's were dogsh*t!....lol

Here's its birth certificate. SBC from birth.

We worked on the hood and doors tonight. Started raining. At some point, soon, we are going to need to get it in the garage. Let see where to put stuff from the garage. Let see, the harley fits in the kitchen. Corvette Mike
