Ford GT on the track....

Have any of you guys been behind the wheel of a Ford GT on the track? If so what did you think, how does it compare to a C6Z?

I've seen a guy put 1 into the wall at Pocono. quite a few years ago

I rode in one as an instructor. Compared to my C5Z, which is no slouch, that car had more hp, more tire, lower center of gravity, and the motor was in the right place. I swear I could defy the laws of physics with that car.

I owned one with 704 RWHP. I did not get a chance to put it on a road course, but knew the car pretty well. I did not build it with this power level for a road course application. With that said, the consensus of most owners is that they are pretty good on a track, but b/c it is 400 lbs heavier than the Z, the brakes go away sooner, and once the engine and supercharger get hot the power will go away b/c it pulls timing (based on inlet air temp - the stock tune is pretty conservative with inlet air temp/timing). Of course, they can be optimized for track performance to help with some of these issues, but bone stock my opinion is that it is not quite as good as a Z - very close for a few laps, but not long sessions.

:iagree:

;) We don't often see Ford's GT43's @ the track...
when we do, Everett's comments are spot on.

Chin did have Robinson Racing show up @ Road Atlanta with their ALMS GT2 which was Wicked Fast...
But Robinson Racing's car was far from stock, I'm not even sure they run the supercharged engine.

That car is naturally aspirated for its GT2 homoligation. Race Car Engineering did a write up on the entire build, check out the website if you want to read more.

I got passed by that car 2x during the final open track session. It was really alot faster that everything else out there.

I saw a guy put a brand new Ford GT into the wall at PIR.

I haven't been behind the wheel, but I duke it out with a buddy. Mine's not a Z06 but it's a Lingenfelter and I have more HP than him, plus I have a Pfadt suspension and Hoosier A6's in Z06 sizes so I am faster all round. But the GT handles superbly out of the box and is very quick on the straights. We only run HPDE's and he has never had any issues, except when he put it sideways into the tirewall :-(

It's an awesome car; wish I had one!

There was one at the 2009 Dec. NASA Rd. Atl event. He ran in the HPDE Group 3 and 4 which was combined. This may have been the same ALMS Ford GT referenced above. Other than spinning on the first lap openning session, (between turn 2 & 3), he was the quickest in both groups the whole weekend. He passed me going down the hill into turn 12!
My wife took quite a few pictures of the car in turns 10A and 10B.

Here is a great video clip that includes Bergmeister running a GT40 off the track at the 2009 Sebring 12 hr. :ack:

Watching the GT40s, F430 and the C6-Rs at Road America two years ago was exciting!

no kind of traction protection if you do screw up on the road course is one bad thing about them otherwise i am sure they are an animal on the track but possibly can get some heat soak during the summer like my friend gt500 does with the big blower on it
