Smart car..

Do any of you own a Smart ForTwo? I am thinking about getting one for my printing business and I'm curious to hear any comments on the car.

Thanks.

Don't get your hopes up......

I'm sure you read plenty about:

Premium gas requirement
Pogo-stick suspension
Relatively high cost of ownership compared to other economy cars

I suggest a Honda Fit for a bit more money. It certainly is a MUCH better value, overall, especially for a business vehicle in which you may need to haul stuff around.

I don't have one, but I'd imagine that almost any other sub-compact would be a better value.

Smart Car is an oxymoron. If you were to measure the car, it is basically round. If someone hits you, you will probably roll around an intersection like a billiard ball. Also, the lighter and stronger the car (they claim that they are of a very strong construction) the more impact energy gets transmitted directly to the passenger. The absolute worst scenario for safety. Think long and hard before you spring for one.

Buy a civic and get the problem out of the way the last one I had cost me 15K tax and tags, it was a 5 spd stick and got 42 MPG in town, slightly less on the highway 39.

I sold it 2 years later and made money on it, what could be better.

+1

They are the LEAST smart cars built from safety to practicality, from price to resale.

Get a Civic or Corolla, a Fit or an Echo or a Yaris or ANYTHING but a "Smart" car IMHO!

If you want something that makes a statement buy a Nissan Cube, or a Honda Element or Scion XB (or whichever one is the box).

Any of those will carry printing galore and can be shrinkwrapped from bumper to bumper with signage- and it's actually a VEHICLE!

Get a Mini! Outstanding room and capacity, 6 spd. manual or auto, 116 HP in (Cooper) , 172 HP, (Cooper S), or 208 (John Cooper Works). Decently fast, a hoot to drive, very economical, and gets stares everywhere they go.

Have to agree with most of the others by saying "there is nothing smart about the smart"..... its friggin tiny, has about as good crash protection as a motorcycle and for its size its not that economic or cheap.

Many other "better" buys have been mentioned

I'd buy one if I ever wanted to die an early death...

I think almost ANY car caught between those trucks would've been squashed like an accordian.:smash:

the problem is you sacrifice all the utlity and you still dont get good gas mileage, a lot of cars out perform it on gas mileage and are in a lot of other areas, like capacity, utiilty, resale, price.

Well only reason I would own one would be if I lived in city where parking is a problem.

Agonizely slow, you can sing the Alphabet between the time it take to paddle shift up, you’ll swing to the right (or left) when passed by trucks on the highway or freeway, several better value cars out there. The Brabus tuned smart is not available in the USA, the Stop/Go Smart is also not available in the USA, (when you push the brakes under 8KM/h -about 5MPH-, the engine automatically stops, then turns on when you push the gas pedal (just a weird feeling). So in closing I have few words to say: Run Forrest,…, Run

The truck in front was stopped and the truck behind was traveling 4mph.:)

Believe me, a 40-ton (80,000 lbs) truck will squash anything, no matter how slowly it is moving.:ack:
