Would you buy a Vette if only a Manual Trans was offered?
Ok, I know there is another thread ( hot topic ) asking manual guys if the Vette only had an auto trans, who would still buy a vette.
I was surprised to see the manual drivers ( some ) would get a different car if the Vette was only offered with a auto and Not a manual trans. As some of us would have presumed, the thread has degraded into a contest of who and what is Better. But anyway, here's my question as the title states: To all the Auto trans guys: Would you still buy a Vette if it only came with a Manual Trans? I have the Auto trans. It's what I wanted and what I enjoy. I like a manual trans and the fun and control etc etc etc ;) it offers. But, .... I wanted a VETTE regardless of the trans :auto: And if the VETTE only came with a Manual trans I would still buy a VETTE. What would you do ? |
Yes I would. I bought my 06 A6 because I owned a manual trans car before and while it's a blast to drive on the open road, sitting in rush hour traffic is anything but fun (10 ft, clutch,10 ft clutch for 10 miles) and since I knew I was going to drive my car a fair amount I didn't want to deal with it, but if manual was the only option I still would have bought it.

No. I don't do manuals.
|
Nope. :nonod:
|
YES.
Given my balky left knee and the traffic in this area, I went with the auto, but I'd go with a manual too. Particularly if in a Z06. |
Yes, that is the only way I will buy one.
|
Depends. Both my prior Vettes were manuals and I would have never considered owning an automatic in a Vette. My last sports car, a Honda S2000, was only offered as a manual. Even my kart had a manual transmission. :) But these days traffic just keeps getting worse and I'm not entirely sure I'd want to drive a manual any more on my commute home.

We have a winner :D |
Wife
My wife and I are joint owners of our Vette. She paid for 1/2.
It would not be possible for us to have one unless it was an auto. Last manual she drove was my 63 Fairlane last year in college. It wasn't pretty then on the hilly intersections in Fayetteville, lots of clutch dust. But frankly I don't think I would enjoy it as much if you had to shift all the time. The paddle shifts in ours are infrequently used, you just get to depending on the auto to shift for you. Except for my CJ 5 Jeeps I haven't had a manual since 1964. LJ |
All 6 Vettes I have owned have been manuals. I like my 07 Z06 and intend to keep it, but if I got another it would be a stick. I have a bad left knee (had surgery, but reinjured it) but still want and like a manual.
|
NO. The reason I did not get a Z06 was because it did not come in automatic.
If it was strictly a track car, then yes, a manual is preferred. However, this is my DD and with traffic and such, no way. Plus, the only racing I seem to do anymore is on the drag strip. I have found a tuned automatic in "S" mode is better suited to drag racing then the manual. I have seen lots of guys miss shifts or shift at the wrong time in the heat of the moment. |

My wife's vert is an A6 paddle shift. I would not have bought it for her if it was only available as a MN6.

I'm an old fart but would never own a corvette sports car with a auto -- manuals only for me!!!
If my wife want to drive the corvette she has to drive the stick .... she learned and by golly she has learned how to drive well. Same with the bike .... she is a trooper! Now I can certaintly understand physical limitations for reasons to have an automatic ............ but not out of pure lazyness. |
My personal vettes are stick shifts with the exception of the first (72 with 3-speed TH400). I forever regretted that aspect of the 72 not having a 4-speed stick. :(
|
The Vette clutches of now-a-days are a piece of cake compared to clutches of older cars. It's hard to believe that my newer model Corvette clutch is even up to the task of disengaging for shifting. But it is.
It couldn't be very much fun for the manual transmissioned Corvette either, having an owner that didn't really love to shift it. |
they make Corvettes with automatic transmissions ??? Not for me i would rather :steering:
|
Probably. I had a C6 with a manual tranny for about 3 months. The only reason I traded it for a vette with an automatic tranny was so my wife could drive it if she needed/wanted to.
|
I said: Sport cars "manual"
|
I've had both
I drive an auto now so that my wife can also enjoy the driving experience. If they were only offered with manual, I would buy it in a heartbeat, and begin the process of teaching my bride the nuances of of "clutch and shift" (that's not a kama sutra position).
