BBK Throttle Bodies Experience/Rebuilders
Hi!
I am going to be needing to get a replacement throttle body assembly for my trusty '89 6 spd (the worn shaft/weird idle problem). The engine is stock and I have been considering the BBK 52 mm new unit. Has anyone had any experience with this and, if so, how did it work out (were there any problems)? Alternatively, if anyone knows of a seller of quality rebuilt units on an exchange basis, please let me know. Many thanks!:flag: Chris Kennedy Houston, Texas |
I have had a 58mm BBK since about 2000 and I haven't had any problems. (knock on wood)

Do a search, some guys don't like BBK
so i got a Holley. Not much difference in price thou ... |
I'm running a 52mm BBK on an '89 with no air flow issues at idle or across the throttle ranges. You will need to "stretch" the plastic duct for the TB side that attaches between the TB and MAF. Use one of these: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=4853 to crank open the duct on the TB end then use a propane torch and slightly heat the rubber where the clamp would normally ride. This heating allows it to relax the plastic enough to slip the duct onto the TB without ripping, cracking, or going with an aftermarket duct. Don't worry about streching it a hair too far as the plastic will contract as it cools.

For the $, World Products TB, seems like a good deal. It was going to take a month for my parts place to get, so I bought the BBK, that they had in stock.

If remember correctly i read no good things read about the WPTB

I've run a 52mm BBK TB on the mostly stock '88 for ~9yrs with no reliability issues and no tip-in issues during acceleration from a stop.
Only issue for me was that I had to file down the front opening to get an easier fit of the boot. |
Three different BBKs; two for an 86 and another one for my 96. After accordion fitment, no problem with any of them.

I've had a 52mm BBk on my 86 for over 5 years. No problems at all. The car has been supercharged for the last 2 years.

I had one issue with my 58mm BBK. The linkage loosened up where the shaft and linkage connect. I just put hit it with the welder no biggie. I found it loose because my idle would bounce around high and low.
I've have it about 6 years and have put tons of abuse to it.:smash: |
:flag:Thanks, everyone, for you replies!

Been using BBK 58 since 2005...no issues..

I have a BBK/edelbrock unit that is 52. There is a slight hesitation, then lots of throttle right up front when the blades open....Don't know if I have mis adjusted the throttle position sensor, but I did it twice,, and it seems the same.
Don't know if the Edelbrock equation changes anything, other than putting their hand in the till. |
