Wheel question!!

Ok so i have found a set of original ZR1 wheels. The kid selling them says they are both 17x9.5's. Fronts have 245/45-17's and the rears have 255/45-17's. He says they are factory ZR1 wheels b/c he got them from a guy who had a ZR1. (i'm going to look at them and double check) I can pick them up for $250. they are missing the original center caps(original owner supposedly kept them) they are just plain caps now. Also what size tires can i run on these wheels? Also will they just bolt right onto my 84' without spacers/adapters? I have read that the ZR1 wheels have the right offset. Sound like a good deal? I need to know soon as i'm going to look/buy on tues/wed. Thanks guys!

ZR1s came with 17X9.5 wheels in the front, 17X11 wheels in the rear.

275/40/17 tires in front, 315/35/17 tires in the rear.

If they are all 17X9.5, their not from a ZR1.

They may be GM 17X9.5s if you find the part number 10214046 on the back of one of the spoke.

What would that make it? Camaro SS wheels? Also how will i know if its a 17x11 in the rear? and numbers i should look for?

^^How will you know it is an 11 inch rim for the rear???

There's this thing....it's called a ruler. Ok ok that was out of line.

Basically you measure the width at the lip

GM 17X9.5 A-molds, if you find the right part number on it. If not they may be replicas.

As for the rears, its not going to be 17X11 if it has 255/45/17's on them.

I'm not sure if the wheels were changed b/c they are being used on a camaro. (third gen camaro)

verify part numbers and markings on the inside of the wheel, before you buy anything. make sure they are original corvette A-molds, and not repros. just because someone tells you something - came from a guy that had a ZR-1, kept the original center caps, now they have plain center caps - blah, blah, blah... they may be legit, but...

an original set of ZR-1 wheels may not be an "original" set of ZR-1's - i know that doesn't make sense, but someone could have put together a set of four 17X9.5 A-molds - still original ZR-1 parts, but not a 9.5/11 inch, "set" of ZR-1's. also, correct center caps can be expensive, so keep that in mind.

The kid says there are a lot of numbers on the inside of the rims. I'm still not sure how to tell if they are corvette wheels... if they are 17x9.5 in the front and 17x11.. is that all you can go by? He says they have "GM" on the back of them.

Do you think a set of 17x9.5's are worth $250?? Does it make them worthless without the 17x11's in the rear?

v8vette84 02-15-2010 02:42 PM

Also i never mentioned but they are not chrome, they are the silver(painted) ones.

$250 is a good price depending on the condition. But for a 84, without the 17X11s I don't think it is worth it.

You will need to run spacers on the backs and fronts to run all 17X9.5s, vs only fronts if you had the 17X11s with 36mm offset.

Well i might pick them up b/c they are relatively cheap. Maybe i'll run across 2 17x11's. If not i'll put them on my Camaro. haha

v8vette84 02-15-2010 03:00 PM

What size spacers do i need to run them?

v8vette84 02-15-2010 10:00 PM

Anybody know?

pearlvett 02-15-2010 10:33 PM

You only need like a 3/4" if i remember correctly from when i was researchin it for my car.

Do you know where to get a 3/4" hub centric wheel adapters? I can only find 1" ones.

Legal-Eagle 02-16-2010 01:24 AM

I have a set of actual OEM forged wheels that were on my car from the factory, and are currently on my '96 CE (being rebuilt). They have original centercaps, and will come with the mounted Goodyear rubber.

Take a look at my photo album, linked below, for the pictures and details on the wheels and tires.

Let me know...

Ok first off with the tire sized on them they are defently not ZR1 rims. 2nd a ZR1 is a wider body car then other C4s so the offset is way differant. I have grandsport rims on mine with the same size tires but I parked next to a ZR1 the other day and the rear wheels were way deaper then mine and defently would not fit on mine. but yeah no way is a 255 gonna fit on my back rims that's a full 2 1/2inchs thiner then what there made for.

v8vette84 02-18-2010 06:02 PM

I am going to pick them up for $200 bucks and they have decent tires on them as well. I think $200 isn't bad. Its better than the factory 84 wheels (i think). and i don't have a huge budget for wheels either. Thanks for the input guys.
