Sumitomo Tires

Has anyone run any of these? Luke at tirerack said they are like they old BFG Comp T/A's. I was curious if anyone had run these in either the 315/35/17 or the 275/40/17 series.
Thanks.

Sumitomo owns Dunlap. They are good tires compund is harder than other Z rated tires from what I've heard.

They do last a long time but no hydroplaning (for those of us that drive our cars) amd seem to stick in corners very well. :yesnod:

I have both sizes on my car. No problems with them.
But once in a while they break traction.... :jester

A set right now is about $567 from Tirerack. That is the 315 in back and 275 up front. Sure can't be that price for a set of new shoes, if they work good.

They work fine for me  :seeya

I had them on GS rims before I switched back to stock sizes.

They worked well, but the rears only lasted 5,000 miles!! No big burnouts either.

I also thought the 315's looked narrow on the rim.

Go to http://www.tirerack.com and check the stats and you'll agree that the Sumitomo HTZR is the FATTEST tire in ALL sizes. :yesnod: :seeya

This is what I meant. It makes for great handling but leaves the rim exposed.

For the price its a great deal.

That is odd to have the rim show like that. Mine is covered and not exposed at all like that  You sure you have the right sized tire

I was using 315/35/17's at the time. The fronts were 275/40/17.

These were on AFS 11" GS rims.

I understand your comment more as I study your pic. The Sumi's are the widest in comparable sizes but look odd in your case. Nice ride, though :yesnod: :seeya

Got the new tires while I was out to sea and must say they look great. The pattern is very similiar to the BFG'S on the car now. I am going to put them on tomorrow and will try to post pictures how they look.
Thanks for all the feedback.

Good luck and remember they ARE directional and if on backwards they will wear out fast  :seeya

Got them on and must say they handle very well. The rim edge is more pronounced than with the BFG'S but this will hold me until I can put the Michelins on.

You wont be disapointed in them. I have 41k on mine & they still have half tread left. I will tell you that they DO NOT handle in rain because they are a harder compound but stick very well when dry & hot. I do notice that if they set for a while (2 weeks or more) you will have square tires until they warm up. I get teased all the time about my "foreign" tires especially because of my license plate but I can live with it.

Re: Sumitomo Tires (travelingypsye)

I would just like to take a few moments to coment on what travelingyses had to say. If you were paying attention to his liecense plate it would be buldging out at you saying "NO4N4ME" on the rear of his car, when around each rim of the car screams out "GIVE ME MORE RICE"!! This has puzzled many of on-lookers every since that I have known this gentelman. I am asking some of my fine corvette enthusiates that are out there to help me figure out this finomninan! I think that he should get a differant plate that say's this. "UNCLEBENS-R-US"

P.S. Seriuosly.....I think travelingypse is one of the smartest men that I know and if he would tell me to jump off the Brooklyn bridge I would ask him to throw me a parishute on the way down. He is and forever will be my bestest friend in the whole-wide-world!!!! I luv u man!
