Removing wheel lock?

Hello everyone,

My wife lost the wheel nut tool for removal of the locking nut on her Nissan X-trail. These locking nuts are round on the outside and key hole in middle, running the diameter of the nut in a zig zag type pattern.

How can I remove these without buying a new nut tool?

Thanks for your help.

Go to the dealership and ask them to take them off likely they will want to charge like 20 bucks. They should have a master set of keys.

Air hammer with a chisel attachment. Air hammer a notch and then hammer it around until its loose.

pound a socket on it and crank it off with a 1/2" breaker bar.

Really you should post this in the "Other Cars" forum!

Go to Pep Boys and buy the removal tool for them!

It has reverse threads in it so when you tighten it "OVER" the locking nut it tightens onto it and then breaks it loose - it is an actual tool and it is only around $14 and it looks like a IMPACT SOCKET:D you'll find it around the wheel lock section or the specislty tools section (IE: Spark plug tapping too etc)

I have had to use mine twice on different cars before:thumbs:

Thanks,Matt

The lug lock described is the hardest to remove, because of the round exterior. Hammering on a socket or the socket remover "easy out" may not work.

A shop can always take them off. One charged my niece $90 to remove all 4 round locks (HONDA).

:willy: Makes you wonder why we bother with locks in the 1st place.

They would not even slow a crook down:ack:

This will be the most cost effective way! I did it to mine last year after I lost my lock :(

Take a six point socket that is slightly smaller than the locking lug and pound it on the lug. Use a six point rather than a twelve point - it is much stronger. Impact sockets work best if the diameter is small enough to fit in the hole in the wheel. Drive it down till the socket bites well into the lug. Use a breaker bar to remove - not impact air gun. Repeat three more times and throw the stupid locking lugs away. No sense on paying 14-20 dollars for a tool that you will only use once.
