My 347 build complete (56k=death)

Well I finally have the car fully put back together & running STRONG!! This was a big winter project that I have been waiting and waiting to do. In August my wife & I finally found a house and I was lucky enough to have the time and resources to pull the motor and build a forged bottom end.

So let me first start of by showing you what the car looked like before I started the tear down.

About 5 years ago right after I installed Andy’s P1 kit

This past Oct. right before I parked her and started the tear down.

I put my motor in from the bottom already on the cradle & just used a motorcycle jack to lift it up in place.

BACK ON THE ROAD!!!
http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/a...g?t=1268153433

So it was a fun project, with some minor things to finish up on. Such as the tune and washing the poor thing. I can’t thank you guys on the forum enough, I have been a member here for a while and have just been taking in all the information put up. BlownBlueZ06 has been a SAVIOR w/ helping me tune the car. Fartpipe has been a huge help in coming over & helping get stuff back together. Lt. Dan isn’t on the corvetteforum, he is on LS1Tech and has a blown Firehawk, and has also been a big help in everything. Reido is my professional photographer, you can def. tell which pics he took. 

No dyno number yet, I just had the car out Saturday to go down to Cecil, just for some break in miles. She runs strong, and I can tell there is a lot more grunt w/ the better heads & cam. As soon as I get her on the dyno I will let you know what kind of #’s I put down and maybe I’ll make my way down to Cecil for some time slips this summer.

Interesting way of mounting the rad and intercooler

madmatt9471 03-09-2010 12:09 PM

Very nice  and great progress:D

But isn't the going to grab "HOT" air through the radiator instead of Cold air? or are you gonna drop the filter down lower? Just wondering

Thanks,Matt

I just have the filter on the end right now, I am goin order some alum. pipe and fab up a intake system to get teh filter down away from the rad. to suck in cold air.

Looks good. We you running meth on the old setup? Those pistons look awfully clean :)

How did you get the front high enough to roll the engine in and out?

XLNT! Before the Dyno Day:D If I may suggest, it'd be worth it

There is one absoloutly awesome thing I like about your set-up and that is the amount of room it gives in front of the motor -

Which air dam did you use - Stock or Madified (Home made like me)?

Thanks,Matt

Stock air dam, I just had to trim 1/2" of the top because it wouldn't go up into place properly. Now I have about an 1/8" gap between the air damn and rad.

I do like the amount of room infront of the motor, and getting the radiator & intercooler away from the motor heat.

I was using meth for about 2k and then did the motor build.

To pull the motor outta the bottom I had the entire car up on jack stands. I measured how tall the cradle to the top of the intake was & how tall the motorcycle jack was & just made sure my front frame rail was an 1" higher. I also had the tranny out. I doubt you could do this w/ the tranny in the car yet.

Worked PERFECT. I dropped the motor out myself, I had Deb hang around in the garage in case something started to go wrong.

:iagree:

Wish I would have tought of that. It would be some extra work and money for me because I got the old twin intercooled setup but I like your radiator and fan setup a lot.
Very Nice!

(edit) Now I'm just pissed off I didn't think of this. A cam change looks like about 1 1/2 hours with this set up and 2 piece timing cover. I have not seen any other pictures of this done that way. That's it I'm going to the garage...

SmoothFRC 03-09-2010 01:11 PM

looks good - just one comment....

I think the Top Rad hose really stands out with the way you have it run... have you thought of running it along the front of the motor and 90 degree's to the radiator. Just may clean up the look.

Very, very nice!

I have, and I am just waiting to see how things go. A project for next winter maybe a DeWitts rad. w/ -AN lines to make it really clean setup.

Looks great! Would love to see some dyno #'s and maybe a sound clip.... :D

Congrats on the new motor. Good chance we will meet at Cecil one day.

Did you really let Fartpipe work on your car? :willy:

Now that is a true quote to remember... Dustin car sounds great you guys did a great job...

VR-4ever 03-09-2010 10:16 PM

Everytime I see a C5 w/ the radiator laid forward it makes me wonder why they didn't do it that way from the factory. Danny Popp does this on his NASA ST1 road race car and they do it w/ the GM C6R race cars... it allows vented hoods to be sealed to th radiator and be fully functional.

396375 03-09-2010 10:23 PM

Very nice.:thumbs:Let us know what temp it runs at during the summer. You might even get away with the stock rad.
Good luck.

ajg1915 03-09-2010 11:11 PM

Looks great. I grabbed these pictures off one of the race vettes up at Kerrys (ACP) that had similar radiator set-up

Yea, I really like the way the laid down radiator worked out. There is a good chance I am goin to put on a MCM hood. That will really help to get the air flowing through the engine bay.
