76 Horn Question
 

Hi folks
If I disconnect the alarm horn will that affect the main horns? Are they on the same circuit somehow? I have replaced my main horns, the ground is good, replaced the relay...and still nothing. If I jump the relay the horns go off fine without pressing the horn button. Put the relay in and nothing.
HELP!
This horn thing is fast becoming my kryptonite

The alarm horn is completely separate.

Check the relay
 

You can test the relay find the two contacts that are the coil apply ground to one and 12v to the other you should here a click if not it is bad replace it. On my 77 from the relay dark green goes to the horn, red is hot to coil and horn (hot side of relay switch), black goes to the horn switch. So you can apply 12v to red and ground to black, if you don't here the click use a continuity meter between red and dark green. have the relay out of the car otherwise the meter will give a false ring. or leave the relay in and see if 12v shows up on green when the coil is engaged. hope this helps.

Has the horn ever worked since you owned it? I found I was missing parts under the horn button when trouble shooting my problem. I also find that if the horn button is not turned in the right position the horns will not sound.

It also could be the horn switch. Use a continuity meter from black to body ground press the horn it should ring.

Black where? Under the button?

No, they have never worked. Do you have a picture of the correct parts (I have a feeling that this is the situation. it just doesnt have the right feel when you push the button) and horn button orientation?

At the wire harness where the relay plugs in.
