Welding Precautions on C5?

Hey Gang,

The roll bar is about to go into the 99 FRC. I've pulled much of the interior and exposed where we need to cut through the panels to get at the frame, and am wondering about precautions before welding on the frame.

I don't have my manuals with me (they're at work) - I know the BCM is under the panel in the passenger footwell, but is the PCM there as well? Do I need to disconnect both of them before welding, or is pulling the battery terminals sufficient?

As always, your input is appreciated!

it's safest to unplug. the ECM is behind the right front wheel

Pull the negative battery cable. That will kill power to both the PCM and BCM.

While its best to unplug both, you should also remember that the current is going to pass the shortest way possible from one point to another so be sure no to have anything in between the currents path.

I have welded on a few C5 Corvettes and just unhooked the neg battery terminal. Never had a problem. Doubt that you will either.

Careful of the gas tanks ... some have dropped them when welding :yesnod:
