Pfadt motor and trans mounts installed...

Installed them today.

FYI: **Passenger side stock motor mount was broken and leaking***

Noticeable difference in vibration. Seats, floorboards, etc. More vibration/buzzing inside the cab as well. Most of this is at idle...driving/cruising speeds not bad at all. Car definitely sounds different...more vibration 'heard' I guess.

My cam does not help things...

Gotta get used to it. Not bad, just different. Glad it is not my DD that is for sure!

Want to see if they help any with the drivetrain shake---Miami Mile is coming up next weekend! That will be the test...

See ya!

I bet lots of cars have broken mounts and don't even realize it.
I knew something was broken in mine for a while now, and wasn't suprised when I took it apart to find this badly broken mount.

I love the Pfadt tranny and motor mounts, makes the whole car feel solid and strong.

Nasty Z06,

How did you support your motor when you dropped the front cross member?

dkal70 04-03-2010 12:03 AM

I'm thinking of upgrading to the pfadt motor and tranny mounts. Is the vibration and buzzing only heard in the interior of the car?
Do the new mounts limit the vibration of the engine and drivetrain?
Keep us posted of the mounts performance during your Mile run...good luck!

Awesome. I ordered the trans and motor mounts today, I can't wait to install them. One of my motor mounts is def broken because I have serious drivetrain shake and what seems to be passenger side wheelhop.

bx goat 04-03-2010 12:39 AM

Installed these a week ago and love that you can feel the engine and tranny right through the seat.

Zed_six 04-03-2010 12:44 AM

I did the tranny mounts only...I can feel and hear more the drivetrain. Reminds me of hearing and feeling the drivetrain in my friend's Diablo 6.0.

Can you tell me generally where to look for the tear in the motor mount? Is that tear facing towards the driver side of the car? The dealer looked at mine and we BOTH couldn't find any external tears. I think the worn motor mount could be a contributing factor to my wheel hop problema.

You will not be able to see the tear untill you take the mount out and remove the top metal cover plate. Then pull up on the top bolt and the crack will open up like the freakin Grand Canyon.

You won't even get much oil leak while it is in the car because the broken mount holds it like a cup.

Broken mount will cause massive driveline shake AKA wheel hop.

Dosen't suprise me the skightest that the dealer didn't have a clue. Get yourself a service manual and do it yourself.

Trans jack. Screw jacks on the cross member.

I don't know if you can hear it outside while driving...I could not notice any difference @ idle outside the car. I will keep everyone posted on how I think they helped/worked out in the Mile Run!

I was experiencing the same symptoms. No more.

You certainly can!

Yep, more thru the shifter as well as a general increase in both feel and sound.

Maxx hit it: you will not be able to tell if they are broken until you remove them and get a handfull of oil!

:iagree: Yep. Same with mine. Looked OK from under the car...I actually thought the drivers side was broken, but that was fine. Pulled the passenger side mount and took an oil bath! Broken, but not as badly split as yours Maxx.

I will update this thread with my thoughts/feelings after driving around some more and after the Mile Event.

Going tomorrow for my 4 wheel alignment to check it out.

See ya!

Heads up tip for the alignment. Make sure they torque the Front Control Arm Cam Bolts to the proper specs or tighten them yourself after they align it. I checked mine after they aligned it and they were at about 80 ft Lbs when they should be at 125 ft lbs.

Rear Cam bolts are supposed to be 70 rear bolts and 107 front bolts.

Otherwise your car may not hold the alignment if the bolts are loose.

Does anybody make a mount that is better than the factory ones but not as firm as the Pfadt mounts?

Randy at DRM suggested these....

I think I'll go with these when I swap mine. He said they work for both C5 and C6 (z06 too!)

$330/pr.

Who makes these? Are they any better than the PFADT's, or are they just a little less stiff?

sorry, forgot to post a link. Vette Brakes

http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=756

By the looks of it, they "appear" a little less stiff, but I have not seen anyone who has compared the two.

dang I did not want to hear that even though I knew it was going to be the case. I'm putting the engine mounts in my ZR1 but staying with the stock trans mounts.

I'm one of those guys that buzzing/vibrations make me nuts lol. :willy:

Knowles's Z06 04-03-2010 09:59 PM

Selling my 08 Z06 Stock (OEM) Tranny Mounts...130.00 for the set

Also selling PFADT Tranny Mounts basicly brand new..225.00 for the set

Email Knowleskennels@aol.com if your interested

http://www.pfadtracing.com/catalog/p...roducts_id/102

the PFADT mounts have 2 sets of bushings one set is stiffer than the other.....the softer set comes on the mounts and you can change them to the stiffer ones before you install if you choose to..

40YRW8 04-08-2010 02:51 PM

Anybody know the weight of the stock motor mounts? They look really heavy to me. How about the weight of the Pfadt motor mounts. How about a report on vibration from someone who changed motor mounts but not the tranny mounts.
Thanks,
Gary

I don't know how much the Pfaddy units weigh.. but the stock motor mounts are 3lbs 8oz each.

The stock tranny mount weighs 2 lbs each.

As far as vibration goes, you will get some with the solid mounts, motor tranny or both.
If you don't want a little vibration, then forget about it.
personally I would much rather have a little vibration and a drivetrain that feels solid as a rock, rather than have mushy or broken mounts and a drivetrain that shakes like a paint shaker.

Gary, if you get a chance cruise up here and take a spin in mine, see for yourself if it would work for you.
