ALSO Grundy does not restrict milage only that the Corvette be a second vehicle , not reguarly driven to work etc....sounds good , will advise further when i get the vette on the road. & all paper work done........ :chevy

Can you take it to work if it's not your primary vehicle? It would be #3 or #4, and I would like to take it on Fridays...you know the routine. Anyway, did they say anything about that? Asking, becuase it sounds like your doing the leg work for me. :D

$550 is about what State Farm charges me for $37k stated value $300k liability, $100 deductable on my 66. I get about $100 knocked off that while the car is stored/worked-on in the winter for 3-4 months with only comprehensive in effect. To get an old car insured with SF, you need to have another car already insured with them - but they give a multicar discount.

If you dont mind a few restrictions,
give J.C Taylor antique auto ins a call.
1-800-345-8290
Have used them for about 15 years.
Never had a claim though, but the price is right!
I wont post what I pay, but its really, really low. :seeya
p.s have used State Farm on my cars since I was 16,
very happy with them. But for old cars they can't compete.
But as I said, I live with restrictions on the old cars.

I've been with J.C. Taylor for 17 years.I pay $272yr for full coverage, $0 deductible and agreed value of $35,000(policy states "this is the value of the covered auto in case of a total loss"). This is for my 1960.

Mine's Haggarty, $240 a year for agreed value of 35K, no deductible, full coverage including towing. Gotta be 2nd car, garaged when not used, not supposed to drive it to work, yadda yadda.

I'd be VERY CAUTIOUS with the Grundy quote - their policy is FULL of unrealistic restrictions for any kind of a driven car. They sent me an unsolicited quote a month or so ago for my three collector cars which was quite reasonable, and I called them to compare their coverages and restrictions vs. the Great American agreed value coverage I have now. After asking many specific questions of their rep, he finally told me that the only "pleasure driving" they allow is to and from club events, and if you stop anywhere along the way (like the drugstore, cleaners, 7-11, or for dinner), they consider that as "errands", which their policy specifically prohibits. Their coverage is for "trailer queens", not pleasure-driven cars; it only covers you for parades, to-and-from club events, on the show field, or while locked in your residential garage. My first clue that there was a problem with them was that they refused to send me a sample policy to read until I sent them my premium check. Needless to say, I'm staying with Great American. Grundy's ads are an outright lie when they say "pleasure driving allowed"; their interpretation of "pleasure driving" is totally different from ours, and I'd hate to leave the determination of whether I'm covered or not to them in the event of a loss.

John you are right about the 7-11 thing I ask the same question of them. But pleasure driving is ok to go when ever you want at least that is what they told me. and if the club is meeting at a dinner it is ok. I went with them hope I did not go wrong.

I use Hagerty after a switch from American Collectors (the switch because of some "bad answers" to some of my questions regarding use... ).

However, as in all of these insurance threads, the REAL proof to me is in claims service. I posted a thread not to long ago asking for experience, but there were only a couple of responses. Based on that, I have to conclude that C1-C2 drivers have few to no claims. :D

So...pays your money and takes your chances. They are all about the same, IMHO, until the nasty "crunch" comes along..... :U

Claims are bad news but I had a few. The ones that went to my company (State Farm ) wer relatively minor (windshields, stone damage) which they paid for - no problem. They even got me a correct dated windshield. On the other hand they denied a claim on my hood - someone jumped on my car - scuffed the paint on top of the RF fender and cracked the hood at the grille openings and underneath. STFarm said the cracks were due to aging and wouldn't pay. It cost me $1500 for the NOS hood. That put me in an adversarial role with their claims adjusters to this day. We are about even now.

I've been hit once in the rear and parking lot dinged twice, but the other guy's company paid for those.

I never want to find out about the rest of the coverage.

Contacted Haggerty, advised  they are not doing new policys in Mass :U anyways I am going ahead with Grundy , still , regarding classic car ins........my primary concern is comprehensive, as my dred has been the loss due to fire or theft, as for years I have been driveing around without collision anyways............. :seeya

Specialty policies are for the folks who have garage queens and trailer queens, self included. I have specialty insurance on my '68 Mustang because I have antique tags which only allow me to drive it on weekends and less than 3K miles a year, I don't drive it often anyway, and it stays garaged all the time. I quit doing car shows and when I do drive it, it is just locally to the burger joint, park, or something similar.. I pay about $200 a year for an agreed upon value.

If you want to enjoy your 'Vette anytime you'd like, just cover it with your other autos and enjoy it when you want. We have full coverage on three vehicles; '05 Magnum, '05 Sonata, and our '11 GS. The GS is $20 cheaper than the Magnum and $5 more than the Sonata. We pay about $1100 a year for all three vehicles.

Do you understand that you are responding to a 16 year old thread?

bibbster 08-10-2018 10:35 AM

Something is a muck! The dates on the posts when I replied were from July of 2018. I'd never have responded to a 16 year old post. In addition, it was on the first page of posts in the C6 forum! I never visit the C1/2 forum. Strange.

I use JC Taylor as well. I had a self inflicted incident in my garage and damaged my 67 Chevelke. They paid to have it fixed st my choice of location no questions asked.

I thought that the agreed upon coverages were absolutely insane. $35K for a 427 BB? Thanks for the heads up Tux.

Yeah - those limits got me to wondering - and then I looked at the date!
