Opinion on C5 Z06 vs E60 M5
Hey guys,
My friend and I are having an argument about which is faster. The cars in question are the C5 Z06 and the E60 M5. The E60 M5 has 500hp, 383lbs of Torque and weighs about 4,000 pounds. No need to list the C5 Z06 specs since everyone knows them. And the C5 Z06 would be a stock one. My thoughts are that on a roll from anything less than 50mph, the C5 Z06 should pull on the E60 M5, my friend says the opposite. Love to hear people's thoughts. |
I dont think so it would be a good race but i think with the gearing in the vette you could pull out a win
|
Going by what I have read and seen, the M5 should do he 1320' in about 12.3-12.9 at around 115-116mph. The top run on the "fast list" is 11.7 for the z06. The trap speeds are very similar. The vette might trap a tad higher, but not over 120.
It should be a good race, but the vette would most likely be able to pull the win with a good driver. |
the c5z should pull out the win with a good driver
|
Thanks for the opinions. If anyone finds any videos of a stock C5 Z06 vs a stock E60 M5, do share! :D

Neato, a sedan with a big engine. He does realize he's driving a SEDAN right :yesnod:

Take it to the track. No need to bench race when you have open tracks in your area.
|
I think Z would win in a real world 1/4 mile street race. It takes a lot to eke every last bit of performance from the E60 M5, especially with the SMG and all the various iDrive settings. They do pull like freight trains on the top end though.

Both have great gearing and both pull really hard up top. Would be a great race, but I think the C5Z ekes it out. BMW makes some excellent cars...

I raced one, he lost by three car lengths.

From a purely magazine racing point of view. At anything below 140mph or so, I would hand it to the z06 due to the weight advantage. After that the M5s superior gear ratios and power advantage will take over.
M5 Z06 Final Drive 3.62 3.42 1st Gear Ratio 3.99 2.98 2nd Gear Ratio 2.65 2.07 3rd Gear Ratio 1.81 1.43 4th Gear Ratio 1.39 1.00 5th Gear Ratio 1.16 0.84 6th Gear Ratio 1.00 0.56 7th Gear Ratio 0.83 ---- So from a mechanical standpoint, the M5 puts more torque to the ground in every gear than the Z06. Aerodynamically they are about equivalent in terms of total drag force. The m5 has a larger frontal area but a lower Cd, while the Z06 has the smaller frontal area but produces lots of drag. CDA for Z06: 7.7 (headlights up) Source CDA for M5: 7 Source |
4000 / 500 = 8.0
3350 / 405 = 7.69 Edit Thanks. Fat fingers on itty bitty calculator |

I raced on from a 40 roll from a 2nd gear till with my stock 01 z
2nd I pulled a car we ran to top of fourth and I ended up being two cars ahead |
Oh and my Z weights 3040 with half a tank
|
regardless which one is faster, that E60 M5 is going to depreciate more than the Z06 is even worth over the next 3 years or so. So you got that going for you. Which-is-niiiice (in Bill Murray slurred voice)

and how much do you weigh? all performance weights should be with driver too. |

Car cant run without a driver
