AC Delco OEM TPSM Rebuild Kit ?
I need a new set of tires and the guy at the tire store said I have to pay for his Tire Sensor rebuild kit. Well, I have searched and searched and no one can tell me it there is a rebuild kit for OEM tire sensors.
I was told by one GM rep that there is NO rebuild kit. Just use the sensors I have and when they go dead replace the whole thing. Any input would be most appreciated. Thanks..... Forgot to say that my vette is a 2004 and from what I have learned it takes a sensor made for 2001 to 2004....... |
Yeah, it's called a new sensor--buy'em from Gene, he has the best price.

To my knowledge, there is no kit you can buy. The sensors can be rebuilt however.

I just assumed they were the older, expensive ones, if you were considering rebuilding them.
Just buy new ones. Kevin@Partstaxi has good prices. A 2004 sensor shouldn't be failing yet. The older sensors have an o ring seal. the newer ones have a plastic or rubber washer that seals against the wheel. I'm thinking that his rebuild kit is a new washer and nut. |
I think your tire guy mistakenly referred to it as a "rebuilding kit". What that consists of is the retainer nut and "O" ring. He probably required you to purchase it to ensure that your tire does"nt leak. You should'nt reuse the original "O" rings.

What the tire dealer is trying to sell you is a kit that consists of the nut that holds the sensor into the rim, a new plastic cap, a new valve stem core and an O'Ring which the 01 - 04's don't use. The tire dealer I went to wanted $7.50 per wheel for the kit. Just another way to dip into your wallet in my view. The parts might be worth 3 to 4 per wheel TOPS. Problem is that if you refuse the kit (I did) they will tell you they will not guarantee the tire won't go flat. The 01 - 04 sensors have a rubber seal and do not use the O'Ring to seal the TPM to the rim. Just need to clean off the back side of the hole through the rim and wipe off the integral rubber seal. The valve stem might be a good idea but I doubt even that. You probably have your own valve stem caps and wouldn't want the cheapo plastic one from the kit. Here's a link that has a picture of the 01 - 04 sensor. Note the built in rubber bushing that seals the TPM to the rim. Heres a 97-2000 TPMS http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...2820074398.jpg It NON Compatable with the later 2001-2004 sensors BUT, you can up grade the RFA, FOBS and sensors to a 2001+ fairly easily and it doesnt cost that much compared to paying for early sensors and dealing with earily FOBs. On a 01-04 sensor, all of the above can usually be reused when installing new tires. |
