Trailering the Z06 - U-Haul Method
As promised, this is what I had to do in order to load and unload the Z using a U-Haul trailer. I heard mixed reviews (reference here: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...-their-zs.html), but overall my experience was positive once I made proper preparations.
Tools and supplies needed: Four 2x10x8 boards (cut 3 feet off two of them) Skillsaw Pair of cargo straps Hammer Pry bar Metric Socket Set Metric Box/Open Wrench Set Pair of Strong Construction Bricks (leftover from my home construction - optional) A dozen or so 16P Nails (to secure the boards together) Excuse the mediocre photos. Side note, the door just barely clears the trailer edge, so if you're a big guy like me, you will still need to crawl through the hatch like I did both loading and unloading.

I am 6' 4" and right around 300lbs. I would get majorly stuck. I almost got stuck going back in through the hatch. Getting out was easier. :lol: |
Nice procedure, great information with pictures... How was it driving up those wood planks onto the trailer.. looks kinda scary :lol:

Another way to get in is to use a 2x6 or 2x8 under the wheels on the driver's side. That angles the door up and over the fender with enough clearance so you don't have to worry about the door hitting when sitting in the car.

Thanks for the info. Im using a uhaul trailer this weekend to tow my 2009 C6. The tow vehicle is going to be my 2010 Grand Cherokee w/tow package and HEMI. It should handle that.....

Thank you so much for this information I am going to the dealer tomorrow and am planning on driving home a beautiful VR 08 Z06! Will be using a haul trailer to get it home since the forecast calls for a chance of rain/snow at the dealer.
Hopefully all goes well with the car! I cannot wait to have it in my driveway. |
I've had the U-Haul experience with my Camaro...it sure influenced me on parameters I had to satisfy when I bought my own car hauler.

I considered the U-Haul route when I bought my car out of state last fall (and studied this very thread -- thanks EViL :thumbs:), but ended up leaving it in local storage for a week until I had time to return and drive home instead (bought it during a business trip).
One thing I found is that the trailer that the local U-Haul place did NOT have removable lips:

So, there is some merit in cautioning the average person about pulling a low budget trailer operating near its gross weight with a tow vehicle that may not weight much more. Most here probably have enough experience to know the pitfalls and the do's and don'ts, but I travel a lot and I've seen some goofy stuff going on out on the highway from time to time (people towing stuff who have no clue). Driving around Atlanta once, on the loop, I saw a motorhome pulling two trailers.... :leaving: |
Well I will let you guys know how my personal experience goes tomorrow on it because this is exactly what I am trying to get the car home if everything checks out. First thing of any real weight my raptor has hauled minus my boat. Keep you guys posted.

never thought of removing those 2 front plates would of saved the air dam on my base c6 good note for next time though, I did put boards under the wheels once on the trailer to raise it up a bit.

Would driving the front tires up on a chunk of 2x material get the spoiler over a welded lip?
