What kind of tires do you recommend

I have started shopping for new tires the other day and I can't decide what to buy. I have Goodyear Eagle GT/4 on there now size 255/60/15. I am planning on staying with the same size but I'm not sure on what kind. What do you guys recommend?

Asking about tires is opening a big can of worms here! There are three things that will start a flame war (if not for the moderators)...asking about the best tires, the best motor oil or or the best wax.

I've no experience with the Goodyear or Firestone's, but I can recommend the BFG Radial T/A, Cooper Cobra and Dunlop GT Qualifier. All three are excellent tires.

Others will likely give you other options...I'm sure there are no bad options for you...just what you like best.

I've got Dunlap GT Qualifiers on my '68, my brother had BFG Radial T/As on his '69 and has recently replaced them with Firestone FireHawks.
I'll be swapping to the FireHawks as soon as I need new tires.

I'm a fan of the Cooper tires. Use them on all my vehicles when its time for new tires.

The GT Qualifier has been around forever and is quite possibly, the most under rated tire out there. For the price is a very well performing tire. It handles wet and snow WAAAAYYYY better than any Good Year or BFG I've ever had. I haven't used Firestone in years, so I don't know how they do now-a-days.

My Dad put tires on my car and I don't remember what they were. Either Sumitomo's or Perrelli. He says they're super sticky.

Are you looking for white letter only? I put Diamond Back radial repro red lines on my last 2 69's and love them.

Nitto clones here!

Mine are Riken Raptors. They come in at $100 each and seem to be holding up well so far.

That is what my 80 sports. I like them.

Mike.

Had BFG Radial TA's on my 80 and it was like being on wet pavement all the time, no traction. I have them on my 64 SS also and with a mild 350 it can turn them to clouds of smoke at will.

I went to the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's and it is a world of difference. The car handles better, rides better, and the traction is a huge improvement. Their still not 21st century performance tires, but for the 255/60/15 available, they work well.
