Corvette weight !

Anybody know the weight of the different years.............Which is the heaviest & the lightest? I have a '73 coupe, 350/400 with hookers without a spare tire, it's heavier than I thought !

Not me, but I'd almost be willing to bet the ZR1's were the lightest C3's ever.

In terms of broad generalities, the higher the year, the higher the weight, topping out in '79. In '80, the aluminum batwing rear end, thinner glass and a magnesium front crossmember made the cars lighter. I don't know whether they were lighter relative to the early C3s, but they were about 150 lbs lighter than a comparable '79.

This site has all the C3 specs listed the weights are listed under the identification header.
The link starts with the '68 at the bottom you can pick what year you want to check.

Gooday,
My 74 coupe was weighed when it was registered-1550 kg = 3417lb.
People are amazed when I tell'em that it weighs the same as one of our Aussie family cars !!!
Cheers

I'm not up to speed on that crossmember item. Can you expound more on that?

Check the '73 Spot, the weights for the '73 are there in the Tech Info section, and the options.

The shipping weights shown in the reference link are probably for SB cars without air conditioning. There's been a lot of postings listing the weight of the BB as compared to a SB. (about 200 pounds?). Also, Someone said that AC added 150 pounds to a car. Don't know if that's true.

My 68 SB probably weights about 2800 pounds based on the shipping weight. All aluminum heads, intake manifold, water pump, radiator, brake calipers, and wheels. Composite spring and spare tire/tub removed.

In '73 the BB added 211 lbs, A/C added 90 lbs with the BB, 80 with the SB with auto, and 95 with SB and manual trans. Power Windows add 7 lbs and Power Brakes added 10 lbs.

The 73 started at 3326 shipping weight for the coupe and 3333 for the convertible.

All per the '73 Spot.

No one believes me when I say my 80 weighs about the same as my dads 2008 Vette. My shipping weight is 3206 and my dads curb weight is 3217.

As of right now my A/C is in my garage and I dont have a passenger seat.... so all I need is another 500hp or so to keep up with him. Maybe ill go with an all aluminum LS3 and a procharger.....

LS4 PILOT 06-29-2010 12:26 AM

I'll bet my car is near the top , if not FAT ALBERT of the whole C3 line...

It could pass for a new born TIGER TANK:lol:

Vettekid1992 06-29-2010 08:16 AM

most c3's r just around 3500lbs but i stripped my car down and its now 3000lbs with me in it so its like 2850 with a full tank of gas

LS4 PILOT 06-29-2010 12:46 PM

Actually my car is a bit over 2 tons ......

With my mamma-in-law on board.....

.

These weights, in the low 3000 lb range, are a lot lighter than some other cars. Look at the Mercedes Benz two seaters, many are right at 4000 lbs. Also, the BMW models are right up there. The new Camaro is about 4000 lbs and the Ford Mustang is slightly less.
