Labor Hours... Power sreering pump??

Anyone know how many hours it takes to replace a steering pump on a C5 ? How about REAL hours and "flat rate" hours..

Thanks

assuming you have tools that depends on your skill level. I can do it in just over an hour. probably faster if I tried. I never try and go fast though. The stealership will probably charge you 2 or 3 hours. I dunno though.

All of your shops that do factory work are going to charge labor guide hours wether they get it done an hour faster or not. Thats part of the business. If the tech has learned skills or tricks over the years to get a job done faster then that his advantage. Thats how they make money.

I will agree though, in our labor guides there are some instances were the hours are WAY off and there is no way that any tech with a conscience will sleep at night charging what the book calls for.

OK, let's try it this way.... Does anyone know what GM has for the labor hours to replace the pump.

no idea. It really depends on what's in the manual. If the manual says to pull the pulley with the pump on the car, there will be a lot of disassembly required to make room for the puller. If you do it the "shade tree" way and leave the last bolt captured behind the pulley, it's much faster and you only have to take off the alternator and the main belt.
