T-Top Chrome Trim Removal
 

Any special advise on the chrome trim removal from a T-Top?.

Were you referring to the T-Tops or trim on the T-Bar?

From a t-top panel itself the way I read it....:lurk::lurk:

I just did mine. I used a small piece of hardwood to tap it off, go evenly from side to side and it comes right off pretty easily.

I assume you know those little corner pieces that join the front to the sides are riveted to the top and have to be drilled out as well as the side trim.

Just wondering.... if you need to 'tap' the front piece off, how do you get it back on without scraping the new paint?

Yes...precisely the thing that kept me awake at night while my car was being painted! I was pretty worried about it installing the trim back on but it works out fine.
The front of the chrom strip is a little bell mouthed so the front edge actually does not contact the paint. The strip is held in place by some small protrusions like teeth inside the top edge of the strip. When you tap it off you can see the marks they make in the fiberglass.
I reinstalled mine by carefully aligning the strip with the leading edge and also the corner where the strip makes the curve, then "Banging" it with the heel of my hand. Some people told me to use a rubber hammer but I was afraid of putting a dent in it. Worked fine for me, no marks in the paint and the teeth regrabbed the fiberglass no problem.

Trim at T-Top Center, with Holes!!!
 

Inspecting my car today I noticed bunch of holes at the end of the chrome center trim on the T-Top.

Do these holes belong there ???? (have no idea what they are for);

What is the part common name - trying to find a replacement, cannot locate at vendors....

My 70 has the same holes. Seems to be factory.

Interesting...my 77 doesn't have the holes.

I Have this piece on a shelf in my storage area....let me have a look and see what it has for holes. If memory serves there are holes on the outer edge to hold the piece in place with pop rivits (??).....your holes appear to be inboard further.

Is it possible "Bubba" was there drilling screw in to hold the part down tighter?

BBCorv70 = Yes the holes on the left side of the center trim, someone drilled them (maybe to hold a CB Antenna);

Dodosmike = just the holes there, no bolts;

nope those holes are not factory... I don't think anyone makes these components as a replacement.

I agree that the large trim piece shouldn't have those holes and also that it isn't being reproduced. Because it's ss, the originals can be polished if they're in pretty good condition.
The 2 pieces on the halo are chrome and can thus be re-plated.

:eek:Sorry but I have to disagree.
Mine is a 70, this one may be as well. Author didn't say.
I find it highly unlikely somebody has drilled holes in mine in the exact locations as in his
photo. I'd guess a design change eliminated them in later builds.
Anyway, if they bother you, you may be able to find replacements without.

I removed mine a few days ago. Preparing to deal with some windshield
frame issues. Taking some photos, shot a few of the trim while I was in the garage. Here's what mine looks like.

Always possible Bubba worked on mine as well, never know. Seems a
bit coincidental...

Hi BB,
I still believe there were no holes there in original trim pieces.
The General did some lousy work, but look at the sloppiness of those holes compared to the other screw and rivet holes in that large trim piece.
