When to change shocks??
I have a '98 coupe with 80K, and know the shocks are going to need replacing at some point. They "feel' OK now but was wondering at what mileage should I look at replacement.
I know every car will be different but I don't want to wait until they are shot and I don't want to replace unneccesarly.. At what mileage did those of you that have replaced shocks do so??? Thanks... |
Your either due or past due. Shocks wear out very slowly and you seldom feel the reduced handling unless you ride in a car with new ones or install new ones. What suspension option do you have??
One of the best shock up grades is the C6 ZO6 shocks. Yep,,, they are an OEM fit and will significantly improve the handling capability of the C5. Have you ever had the feeling that your C5 was going to skip of the highway in a high speed entrance ramp curve?? My ZO6 even did it. Up-grading to the C6 ZO6 shocks eliminated that! Gene Culley has them for $250 ish for all four. www.gmpartshouse.com BC |

I bought my 98 with 70k at 72k I replaced the shocks with C6Z06 shocks from Gene.
It was like a new car again. At 75k I got rid of the run flats Its even better now |

They also fit and work well on C5's with selective or magnetic ride control options,,,,,,,, BUT,,,, you have to deprogram the F55 and F45 from the BCM using the TECH 2 or use resistors inplace of the shocks for the F-45. Other wise the BCM and RTD module will throw DTCs and limit you to 80 MPH.

How much does that cost using a tech 2?

Or how much can you get a decent shape Tech 2 used?
I got mine used for $1000 The dealer will charge you one hour labor.. You will get a less charge from a Service Garage that has one. BC |

i have a 99 C5 with selective ride and it feels like skipping more than i can expect from a sports car :(

So,,,,find some C5 Z51 sway bars, C5 ZO6 sway bars or C6 Z51 sway bars and some metal end links, toss in some new C6 ZO6 and you will have a significantly different car that you will really enjoy driving. It isn't really a significant investment either. If it were me,,, I would have the F-45 deprogrammed out of the BCM with a Tech II. The resistors are not difficult to install for someone that can solder. BC |

Look in the used C5 Parts section or C6 parts section. Used C5 Z or C6 Z51 are excellent. Stock metal OEM end links are excellent. They are stock on the ZO6
