Steve schmidt racing LS6 engines
Does anybody have experience with this company and is anybody running this engine into a C5 (Z06)

I don't know anything about Schmidt, but it's kind of pricey for a LS6 block/heads build. Hell, with today's prices you can get a nice C5Z for that much money.

Top shelf parts, but man, that's a lot of friggin' money. :ack:

Sorry, whoever pays that much for that motor has a few screws loose; I mean jesus, it only has ported LS6 heads.... For that money you could build a stroker with a blower. Do not purchase

Nice numbers for an NA engine. But way too much money for those numbers.

Yeah right its only ported heads. This thing is a 427ci motor with top shelf parts. A Lingerfelter LS1 427ci costs $20k and puts out 530hp. Therefore, this price does not look ridiculous to me.

Ah, lol. I must have been more drunk than I thought last night, I didn't see the 427 part, just the LS6 part. So based on this newly found piece of information, I don't think its tooo bad. Still wouldn't spend that much money on a motor though
As for the price, comparing it to other 427ci builds out there it is not a bad price to me. They are all expensive, more than I will pay but in comparison its in line with supporting tuners. As for the heads evidently the ported LS6 units are doing quiet well to make 630hp. To use a better head would have increased cost. Plus the fact that they used the LS6 block is a cost increase to get it to 427ci. Are there cheaper ways to get big cubic inches? Sure, but this one is based on the LS6 which I find unique. However spending $15-$20k on a motor when the car is worth only slightly more is not smart in my opinion. |
I have seen lots of cheap engines. for much less money
Remember guys, when building an engine you can only have two of the three: 1. HP 2. Price 3. Reliability Good racing engines cost money to build. Think too many ppl are use to looking at budget parts on budget builds, that may have the HP numbers, but reliability? Katech, http://katechengines.com/street_perf...e_packages.php HKE, http://www.hkracingengines.com/packages_ls1.php for short blocks with average parts. Schwanke http://www.schwankeshortblocks.com/shopping/?ic=1066 Off road engines. Golen Engine http://www.golenengineservice.com/html/ls.html |

Golen Engine http://www.golenengineservice.com/html/ls.html In the Katech link you posted their value 427 is $12k and it says mild cam. I believe HKE offers 457 and 460ci long blocks for $16-17k. I'm not bashing the motor, I just think you can get better for less money, and I'm basing that on experience. My motor is 2 1/2 years old now and never had a problem. As far as putting a $$$ motor into a reasonably priced car, why not? It's a toy, not an investment. If you put the same motor into a new Z06 I guess they could depreciate togeather, but it would't perform any different. |

I hate it when I do that! At least you were enjoying yourself, I hope.

any good builder can build what you want or need.

Thanks for all the input.
Yes putting 20K in a car that is worth 20K does sound silly but really this car is not my daily driver and i have no intention in selling it. So i'm not to worried about depreciation. Chassis wise my car is pretty much sorted now and tha car is ready for some more HP. I'm looking for a proper racing engine to go out and play with the big boys on the race track. The fact that i'm in France doesn't make it any easier, there are no real LSX specialists around and i don't want my life to revolve around building an engine so I need something that bolts in place without too much hassle. Therefore the 427 LS6 sounded like a good option to me. I'll check out the company and also look into some of the other builders AU N EGL suggests. |

If you know the owner of that car, talk to them.
