Mobil 1 0w20 meets GM's 4718M spec, which means it's suitable to use in a Corvette. :D

So with the 0W designation it will warm up faster and flow faster to engine for protection at start up over the 5W?:bigears

A lot of different weight oils meet the spec but GM calls for the 5W30 to be used in the Corvette. If you use 0W20, then the oil will likely be to thin when the engine is up to operating conditions, for proper oiling in high heat environments, such as Phoenix in August.

The 0 part of the designation isn't the problem, it's the 20 that can potentially cause a problem.

I don't think the weight qualifies though.

I'm doing a extended oil changed in this very oil in my civic, which then I'll have an oil analysis done. I already put 13,500 miles on 0w20 Amsoil and have those results (outstanding, btw). We'll see what this M1 looks like later.

The owner's manual specifies two things: GM4718m and 5w-30. This oil only matches one of those things.:thumbs:

GM does not say anywhere that it's OK to use any 4718M oil in the Corvette. It says that it's OK to use 5w-30 4718M oil in the Corvette.

but, as a follow up, I did receive a comment back from GM (on my question to them) that "Extended Performance" M1, full syn., GM4718M, correct weight, oil is permissible. that's the one that was shown in the video (sitting on the frc with open hood) that came with my '08.

Best stick to 30 weight in a Corvette.:flag:

doesn't matter, Chris. for as many times as it's said, next week someone will ask, "is it ok to use X brand of dino oil with 20W-50?"

It's good to know you could technically use this in a Vette. It's also odd that a 20 grade is approved for this spec. If you are racing or trying to get a bit more Hp, I'd use it. Another good choice is their 0w-30. All three are very good oils, it would be interesting to see how they all perform in the C6.

I don't know if this is off the point... but "Top Fuel" dragsters use 0 50... & they seem to accelerate just fine ... :rofl:

But the entire life span of a top fuel engine is less than 500 revolutions...we do that in 20 seconds on the freeway....:thumbs:

As others have pointed out, meeting GM4718M alone doesn't mean that it is acceptable for use in corvette. Viscosity grade also has to be correct or within owner manual acceptable limits.

This wieght is for all of you people who drive in the artic circle.

I have to ask. What is it with you and 0w vs 5w oil.

Last week in the 0w-30 thread you basically asked this same question 3 times and were given the answer there:

"So it is better to have a 0W at start up so the oil flows faster than 5W? :bigears"

"Doesn't the 0 flow faster to the engine vs. the 5W? Isn't this a good thing? :bigears"

"By using a 0W-30 won't the engine warm up faster and get better gas mileage? :bigears"

I'm certain you know the answer by now so why do you keep asking? It almost seems like you are trying to stir the pot to hear an argument.
