GM detuned the V6 Pontiac Fiero because it was faster than TPI Corvette
In the mid '80s GM had to de-tune the V6 Pontiac Fiero because it was faster than the '80's TPI Corvette. GM couldn't have a car in their line up able to beat the Corvette.

More like those at GM needed a boot up someones @$$ because of the low power engines they were putting in the Vettes at the time.
No reason for the restrictive intakes and low rpm limits |
o ya.... how about the buick grand national because it was faster then the corvette lol

...I'm also not sold on the incredible tuning ability of the 2.8 liter V6. Back of the envelope calculation says that the L44 would have needed about 190 bhp to compete with the Corvette in power to weight ratio - about 36% more than the 140 bhp that it was rated at. In the mid-80s, that was non-trivial bump in horsepower.

slow as chit! i have some land in florida for sale. are u interested? |
:bs
I'm well versed on this subject, and don't care to debate it further. |
and they detuned the LT4 so it wouldn't be faster than the LS1, but it didn't work out to well.
As far as the Fiero? I would need more than your word on that! Just saying! |

The Fiero, the SVO, 83 CFI. You trolls are something else... If you got a beef with a corporation make a formal complaint. Are you saying that today, the Pontiac G8 is detuned because it is faster than the Z06? GTFOOH:rolleyes: Here is the GM mailing address, make a point letter and mail it to them GM P.O. Box 33170 Detroit, MI 48232-5170 Let me guess, by 10:00PM a new thread about 80s BS would come up. You noobs, trolls and others live with it, there is no 83 CFI and the C5 is better than C4s. |
I had a 2.8 in an 85 Camaro, and got a turn behind the wheel of a Fiero GT with one. Both nice cars, reasonably quick, but no way in heck would that motor be truly fast in any car that wasn't falling off a cliff. You must have gotten hold of some good chit to buy that story.

Who cares what was faster or slower than the Vette was 20+ yrs ago does it really matter? They were all different versions of slow but back then nothing had power so that was the best they could do. |
Long live the Grand National.
