New to N2O Need some pointers...
 

Just ordered a TNT kit from MTI with an Nx Bootle heater, MSD window (3000-5800), and a set of TR6 plugs. Guess the split-fires are coming out.

OK what I need to know is if I'm missing anything real important here in this setup. I want a reliable system, one that I can use often, and without worry. From what I read 100 is good and reliable.

Also what/ how is the proper way to drag a car on N2O.
If I'm high speed street racing, how long can I run a safe shot? Really need some pointers on how to use the system without hurting my engine.
Also what modifications should I be careful about doing on my car now that I'm getting N2O. IE Someone told me not to change the MAT sensor

A couple of safety gadgets that come to mind are the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) switch and the Fuel Pressure Safety switch.

As Oace said you will need a TPS switch. Do not get the FPSS. It will give you the most problems.

Drag with nitrous takes time. If you do not run DR's then it will be a waste off the line. Set the rpms pills as 3000 "on" and 5800 "off" on a stock converter and h/c car. Otherwise you would raise the "off" to about 6200. A nitrous timing controller would also help for drags.
You can run a shot as long as you feel safe, have enough nitrous and don't hear any ping.

Big pointer is : ATAP your car SEVERAL times BEFORE using nitrous.

Mods to be carefull about. TAKE OFF ported MAF's or those larger MAF housings and put back the STOCK descreened (you descreen it) MAF housing. The aftermarket ones will LEAN you out big time. Of course if you have LS1edit or a MAFT you can adjust the aftermarket ones in. :cheers:

Where do I find a fuel pressure safty switch?
I would also like to mount an N2O pressure gage up front, but kind of hidden, any ideas. Where to buy the parts?
Also how much time can I spray with my 10 lbs bottle? with 100hp jets.

i bought a used NX wet 100shot kit last week, and it was missing a few parts. so i went up to the horsepower store yesterday and the guys up there took care of me. I bought a fuel saftey switch($45), and TPS WOT switch ($99), NKG spark plugs ($16) and a NX ash try mount switches($45). Since researching an nitrous system I found alot of people always say that you need to buy an window switch, yet when i talk to people that have an actual install they only use a WOT switch. I dedcided for now that I will just use a WOT switch. I have yet to hit the revlimiter while racing and feel that I will be alright with the setup. My next purchase will be a bottle heater, but am going to wait on that for a little while.

I can guarantee you that if you drag race or street race your car, you will hit the rev-limter. Just a matter of time, sooner or later, and it will be one hell of an expensive mistake if you don't have a window switch.

Do yourself a big favor and go get one. $80 is much cheaper than a new motor + labor.

That is the correct TPS switch, and I think it's from Breathless Perf. I don't know how reliable this one is, but the same one from NX sucks - BIG TIME. Take a look at my post on it. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=267588

There is a 13 second rule for safe nitrous use. Spraying for a longer duration can lead to dangerously high cylinder temps. I have broken the rule a couple times with no problems. I am running just a 100 dry shot, though.

Hitting the rev limiter when spraying is not a good thing but if done only briefly will not damage anything if the engine/kit combo is setup right. I've done it before.

It is always better to be safe than sorry but I feel our engines can take a lot of stress in stock form. I'll be the first to attest to that. I've got no safety devices in my system...just a main and WOT switch. If you're on top of things they're not needed. It's all about being comfortable and confident but mistakes DO occur. :crazy:
