1/4 inch wheel spacer question.
 

Will the studs need to be changed out for longer ones if I run 1/4 spacers on the rear wheels? If so, how much will that cost and is it alot of work? Might not be worth it.
I have OEM Spyders on my car.

I can't say for certainty but if you have at least 7 full revolutions of the lug nut (on the stud) it should be OK....not ideal but OK. Make sure the lug nuts are torqued to spec. If longer studs are needed, not only do you have to 'pull them in' to seat them properly but the main problem is they don't just slide-in...you can't get the stud lined-up straight to go through the hole. Some disassembly may be required. Nothing major but its a minor pain.

I run 1/4" spacers front and rear, and I had the longer studs installed. I went with the ARP 1/2" studs. They are not much longer than stock, but they are threaded all the way to the end. With the ARP studs, I can run my OEM wheels with no spacers. I did for a while because I had problems with the 3/8" spacers I was originally using.

During my research, I came across folks who were running 1/4" spacers on stock bolts with ET lugs. Even if I had gone with 1/4" spacers initially, I would have still replaced the studs. It makes me feel more comfortable running the spacers.

Also, I plan on running 3/8" spacers on the rear when I can find a good set so replacing the studs provides me much more flexibility.

Sounds like a the stock studs won't do it.

I just purchased a set of 1/4 spacers and all the researching I did shows that 1/4 is the limit of the stock wheel studs. Once you went over that size each spacer I looked at said you needed longer studs. I am putting them on tomorrow, will find out how they work then.

Get extended-tip lug nuts if you don't feel comfortable using the stock studs and lug nuts. The tip protrudes about 3/8", so with a 1/4" spacer, you will actually get more thread engagement.

Where do yo get those?

I unscrewed one of my lugnuts and then I counted 7 full turns before the nut made contact with the wheel. If I install a 1/4 spacer, I doubt if I would get enough bite.

I'm using 1/4" spacers with stock studs and E/T lug nuts so the thread engagement is the same as stock with no issues. With the right lugnuts there is no need for extended studs with 1/4" spacers.

What do they cost and where do I get them?

Will these ET lug nuts work on c6 wheels going on a C5 with a 1/4" spacer?

Also what is the size of the ET lug nut i need to get from Summit Racing?

if you have a base C6 w/ stock rims and run 1/4 spacers and ET lugnuts, can you clear Z06 brakes with no clearance issues (i.e. no rubbing)

I run 8 mm spacers and Crager extended lug studs with Z06 brakes and factory gumby wheels. I had 1/4 inch spacers but wanted a little more clearance for the brakes. I get more than 7 turns per lug and have a full set of ARP studs waiting to go on but I never installed them.

Are spacers only used for clearing BBK's or can they be used for widebody purpose too? (I know nothing about spacers)

I run 1/4 spacers on my stock Z06 rear wheels and did not change the studs, have been running that way for over a year with no issues. The vette tech that works on my car said anything larger than 1/4 spacers then yes I would need longer studs.

I got them at http://www.motorsport-tech.com/ it took 3 weeks there made to order. Lug nuts are from Summit racing. I have a full set of Baer 3/8 spacers 1 pair of 1/4 and a pair of 1/8 available and 1 full set of Gorilla e/t lugs if anyone is interested.

I'm running 1/4 spacers all around. The only problem I had was the lugs needed to be retorqued after about 25 miles. I have checked them weekly and so far no problem, staying torqued. There is just enough of the hub protrouding to keep the rim centered. I just drove 300 miles last weekend and everything was just fine. Stock lugs, stock studs.:thumbs:

If you didn't get the spacers yet go with the 8mm the 1/4 is ok just a little close. The 8mm gives you .100" space between the caliber and gumby wheel if that's the wheel your car has. I didn't get enough turns on the lugs but with the Cragar E/T lugs I really feel safe more than 7 turns and no vibrations.
