Finally.. Sub box C6
 

I had some down time this month, so I decided to glass my own sub box. To my suprise it came out pretty good.:thumbs:

10" or 12"? Air space?

I made the post with pics. I take it you can't see them?

I put a 10". I calculated the air space with the peanut method and it came out to .69. I also fiber filled the enclosure. The fiber fill should give it an additional 10-20% increase.

As soon as I get a car I'll be doing a glass box but with a 12" IDQ12

Nice box, excellent craftsmanship and finish, but there is no way that box is .69 cubic feet. I would say more like .3 before displacement, if you're lucky.

No offense meant, it's just you may want to check your math...

Forgot the exact math but the cubby is around .25 cu ft on it's own

This is how I figured out the air space. I found an empty cardboard box took the internal measurements. It came out to 16 x 7.5 x 10. I simply filled the box with shipping peanuts and then transfered to peanuts to the sub enclosure.

This is what I came up with:
16 x 7.5 x 10 = 1200
1200/1728= .69

Is this correct?

A buddy of mine made a box very similar to that for the other side. No cubby hole used down below. I needed a box 17 liters in volume.

When the box was done I looked at the box and thought to myself "There is no way this is even remotely close to 17 liters in volume. I'll need a lot of polyfil to "fake" out the sub into thinking the box is really bigger". But, I was pretty much stuck with the size because that was where the sub was going. So we stuck a trash bag in the box and started filling with water and it started filling up pretty quick. We did 500 mL at a time. As the box got wider, dumping the water in raised the level very little. When all was said and done, the undisplaced box volume was 21 liters. I thought we must have miscounted so we did it again and got the same result.

The complex shape of the box is VERY deceiving. Looking at the box it's very easy to think the volume is much much less.

Yes sir, this was my first glass enclosure. It's really not that hard. The only part that I had to pay for was the ring. I had my local shop do it for 10.00.

Hope my first glass project comes out that well...
