Light-weight batteries? Pros & Cons, Brands, Mounts, etc
So reading Geerookie's post has me motivated to put both me and the car both on a "diet" over the winter. I was already leaning in this direction after seeing Hamdog's car at Summit Point back in the summer.
Not sure I'm ready to go to the same extreme as Gee just yet, but definitley going to pull carpet, stereo, speakers etc from inside, progessing toward full cage etc. I've been thinking about replacing the battery with something lighter for a while, but not too familiar with the brands, quality, longevity, mounting hardware, etc. I had an Odyssey AGM in my Yamaha GP1200 years ago so I know a little about them but have also seen Braille and others. Would appreciate recommendations on specific model, weight, CCA, hardware and mounting locations. Pics are always handy too! Thanks! Jim |
I am still running a Hawker Genesis (13.5 lb) battery I bought in 2001! It has been in 3 different cars. The VIR UTCC/NASA July weekend of brutal heat I think has sent it the first step towards it's grave, but it will still fire the car.
In feb it fired the car at CMP (25 degrees) after sitting all night. It was 9 yrs old at that point. http://www.gearhack.com/myink/ViewPa...0Car%20Battery I took a spare C5 battery tray, and built a bracket for it so that it lays flat, and for sanity sake just use side post to regular post adaptors. I think I paid $62 for it back in '01. |
Hi Jim
I'm leaning toward a Deka ETX 18L http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...tall-pics.html I'll be working on the waistline part too  |
I'm on my third year with an Odyssey 925, so far so good.

It's an Odyessy bracket. I bought it when I got the battery at one of those Battery Plus chain stores. I just stuck on the Z06 badge because it was laying around the shop gathering dust.

I plan on getting the Hawker Genesis G16EP as recommended by another poster. It seems to get the job done and only weighs 13.5lbs. I found it as gotbatteries.com for $96.

in reality the C5 doesn't need a light battery in the stock location, it needs a regular size heavy battery near the RR tire ;)
