Video--New PR 11.02 Bone-Stock on Stock Tires
Ran a new PR yesterday. Bone-stock 2006 Z06 on stock tires (F1SC EMTs). Pass was 11.02 127.25 on a 1.70 60-foot. DA was about negative-750. The spin on the 1-2 shift kept the pass from being in the 10s. Still have some work to do.
Did a burnout to first smoke, released the foot brake and the car roared forward with the tires squealing. Launch rpm was 3600. Fast clutch release. Fast throttle squeeze to wide-open-throttle. Induced clutch slip was minimal. Clutch lock-up occurred within 15 feet of the start line. That is very fast lock-up and the reason the 60-foot, 1.70, was fast for stock tires. All shifts were fast with full throttle lift during clutch-in. Shifts were accomplished close to the limiter, without any limiter clips. Spin on the 1-2 shift was the only flaw in the pass. Wasn't a way to avoid that without opting for a slower shift which would have delivered a greater time penalty. 330' was 4.72, despite the spin on the 1-2. Hope to have the opportunity to run again on stock tires in good air when more drag radial and slick cars are in my lane. They help maintain rubber in the groove out to beyond the 1-2 shift zone. My thanks to the six other racers who joined me in enjoying the fall air at MIR. It truly was a great day of camaraderie and sharing driving tips. Thanks also, as always, to Chris who collected video and audio for us. My car now has 273 passes and 23,400 street miles. It went to the track with fresh oil and new differential and tranny fluids. Clutch fluid started the day pristine, but required periodic reservoir swaps after every 4 to 6 passes to stay ahead of clutch dust infusion. Clutch behaved fine; no glazes and no pedal issues, through the day's 18 burnouts and passes in five hours. Here is the video: The video will play in HD at full-screen, if watched on youtube. Crank up the volume for the sweet sound of a stock LS7 in full song. Here is the time slip from the PR pass. http://www.rangeracceleration.com/ho...stocktires.jpg Finally, one editorial comment on the value of track rentals.

Over the last 10 years I've attended a lot of rentals and hosted more than 25. By far the best and most enjoyable are the small ones, say 8-cars.
That's because there is (1) time for unlimited passes (2) a relaxed atmosphere for coaching on driving techniques by the faster drivers (3) good proximity to the starting line for observers (4) accountability for keeping the water-box in good order and the staging zone free of trailed water (5) better opportunity for high quality video and audio The interesting thing is that so many owners say they want to join rentals, but so few ever make the time to actually attend. Sad fact. Drivers aspiring to higher skill levels behind the wheel would do well to recognize that practice at the track is a proven path to self-improvement. Ranger |
Very nice buddy! Excellent times and of course the driving is spot on. :yesnod:
Only .04 to go ;) |
Wow, I can't believe it's going to happen. You can hear that very nice scratch on the 1-2 shift that cost you the run. Awsome run!!!

Very impressive as always Ranger. Too bad you can't be around for my rental to give a few pointers on my set up :( I'm sure i could use a couple!

:iagree: Oh so close yet oh so far from those elusive 10s (bone stock) which you will nail down sooner or later. |
Excellent run Ranger:thumbs:

John,
Congrats on the stellar pass. You certainly do not look rusty at all on the shifts. 60' approached perfection on those OEM tires. Many would envy that on DRs. Perhaps we will see that 10 second pass on your next thread. |
Nice run, What was your rear tires air set at?

Thanks for the generous remarks, gents.

Collecting video of driver/instruments in the car has really helped nail down the personality of the LS7 clutch on launch and better identify small driving errors that waste time and understand their impact, like limiter-clips even during clutch-in. Once those lessons are internalized, improvement flows. Looking for new records from you before the season ends. Ranger |
wow. 1.70 60'. Very nice.
