HID head and fog lamps
 

Do they make HID lights for the 92 Z? When I first bought the car, I noticed the headlamps don't look as bright and crisp as I'd like them to be. My buddy has HID lights on his GMC pickup and those things look like spotlights lol.

Just curious...

I found this on eBay. Not sure if anyone has used this or similar?

If u go to the zr1 registry, look up Ccmano and his article on HID install for fog lamps.

They make HID's for anything if you don't mind blinding the crap out of oncoming traffic. If you are going to go that route, I'd suggest you do other drivers a favor and get something with a properly designed projector lens, so that the light is distributed evenly and there is a proper cutoff to the top of the beam. And of course align them so the cutoff is level with the horizon/below other drivers' windshields.

http://www.corvettehid.com has some "proper" conversion kits. They cost more than just sticking an HID bulb into a reflector housing though.

I had these on my 92 LT1 and they were significantly better than stock and not nearly as expensive as good HID kits. And if you need even more light, you can upgrade the bulbs to 100W. Also, they have a really sharp cutoff so they don't blind oncoming drivers.

Very cool. The other site, corvettehid, has a set for like $749 which is outta my price range at the moment considering I am trying to spend my cash on getting the car operational again. These ones from Ecklers seem like will work just fine. The stock lamps just don't seem bright enough for me and I do alot of driving at night.

Do they also make some kind of kit for all the running lights in the front? I'd hate to have crisp headlights and all the other bulbs look worn :willy:

What you are referring to as "running lights" are actually fog lights, and are not designed for use for regular night driving. They are specifically designed for fog, and don't have a good distance pattern. You can upgrade them to HID, but honestly I wouldn't worry about them other than just replacing the bulbs that are in there. Bulbs do wear out (have less output) over time, so even just replacing headlight and foglight bulbs could make a difference.

I tried the Silverstars. I then went with the Hella housings and then bought the high watt H4 blubs on Ebay available anywhere. Plenty bright for me. Not HIDs but not $700 either. GC

Considering the price of Silverstars versus the Hellas, it's almost not even worth trying the Silverstars.
